Passive 3D glasses.

Passive 3D glasses.
The TV I bought a few months ago came with 3D,I wasn't looking for it. (here no TV channel broadcasts anything in 3D).

The set came with good pair of active glasses. I've seen a few movies and love it. I'd like a pair of glasses for a guest. New active glasses are around $180.(and up)

I had a little think and thunk; "I bet the glasses they use in cinemas aren't expensive, people would nick them"

I was right, cinema glasses are passive, polarised and cheap. After researching on line, the only disadvantage I could find is that they need a dark room. My local electronic shop has them (by order) for $19. I've ordered a pair, the shop has a no-questions-asked -14-day-return-policy.

MY QUESTION:has anyone used passive 3D glasses at home? I'd be very interested in your opinion. If not,I will post a review after I've tried them. Delivery will take a couple of weeks.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure the tech is different. Passive glasses work at the cinema because there are two images projected onto the screen with different polarized light and the glasses only allow the correct image to go to the correct eye. 3D TVs have double the refresh rate (120 fps) of a non-3D TV and the active glasses block the image from getting to the wrong eye so I do not think that passive glasses will work with a 3d TV. Let me know if I'm wrong. I've thought of getting a 3d TV for gaming. I saw a display where two people could play a game at the same time and use the full display. I was stoked!

$180 sounds a bit steep. Last generation Sonys are going for around $50 on Amazon. What kind of TV do you have?

Samsung (about 6 moths old).I was going by shop prices here, I tend not to shop on line, but will certainly consider it if that is an average price.Thank you;I will start looking on Amazon and Ebay.

You got it.

It looks like Samsung switched from infrared to Bluetooth starting with their 2011 models so make sure whatever you get has the right technology to talk to your TV.

Yair.

I just did a very un-Australian-bloke thing: I read the instructions! Read the box the glasses I have came in,and wrote down the model number.

Went to Ebay;found the same model number glasses for $49.99. (free delivery)

Double checked on line to make sure the glasses are compatible with my TV (a 2011 model) They are.

Have ordered a pair on Ebay.

Keep the passive glasses and just buy a second TV set to display the image twice. Problem solved!

If the problem is that Amazon won't ship outside the US, you can use Borderlinx or Comgateway to get a US based address to ship it to, then they will ship it to you for a fee. I've used Borderlinx twice now and it works great. Sometimes online shops offer free shipping inside the US, so I only needed to pay for the item and Borderlinx for their services.
