I asked first. If you have no evidence of this theory then you must admit that you believe it out of faith. It's either evidence or faith.

This is getting good. Now chiachimp is heading straight to saying believing something on faith is stupid. For some reason I don't think the word irony is in his dictionary.

No in saying you all are hypocrites saying believing based on faith is opening yourself to ignorance when you do the same thing with cosmology.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

-4th verse of the american national anthem

No saying this shows what a trollish troglodyte you are and how selective your reading is.

That's fine Chip, we're all hypocrites, that still doesn't make your god real, now does it? This is how it always ends. Fundies like you storm in certain that you'll be able to show evidence for your fairies, but you settle for nothing more than an insult after completely failing to achieve what you set out to do.

I'm a hypocrite and you worship your imaginary friend. I'm okay with that. Are we done?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Oh, fuck off, chippy.

Here's the difference. I know that were I not too lazy I could attend a university and get a degree in astrophysics which would enable me to fully understand the BB theory. As it is, I can listen to Neil De Grasse Tyson and others and get an inkling of what they are talking about I could do more if I wished. You see, they offer evidence.

OTOH, I could study your fucking bible in a divinity school and learn nothing except ancient superstition which is insufficient to teach much of anything. You offer bullshit.

You might maybe learn some respect for the beliefs you ridicule. Then again, with apologists like chipan, I can understand why you may find that prospect less than appealing.

And there is the rub. These "beliefs" are worthy of ridicule and command not one jot of respect from the rational mind.

Excuse me Mr. philosophy, the whole point of ridiculing something is a lack of respect for it in the first place. What did you expect while joining this forum?

No, we are obliged to respect your right to hold your beliefs.
We are in no way obliged to respect your beliefs, or you for having them.

Totally missed the point guys. You are not obligated to respect beliefs, true, but you might learn why some beliefs are worthy of your respect. The situation in reverse is this. If some believers gave serious consideration to the nuanced arguments against religious belief perhaps they would respect the atheists here by not presenting lame proofs all the time. Likewise if you did study divinity you might not be so quick to dismiss everything you disagree with as "bullshit". You could still disagree with religious belief, but you might understand better how reasonable intelligent people can believe in God. I'm here to study the questions and maybe learn something. If I'm Mr. Philosophy then good, because I love wisdom and wish I had more.

You're assuming exactly what, that none of us are familiar with christianity, that we might just learn something? Perhaps we did, and what we learned is precisely why we have a complete lack of respect. I understand many of the reasons that intelligent people may believe any number of things. Their beliefs still command no respect. I don't call things bullshit because I disagree, I call things bullshit when they lack evidence. The distinction should be pretty clear. I disagree with a great deal for which we have evidence, but I cannot call these things bullshit, and similarly, I agree with many things for which we have none, and can clearly and honestly call it bullshit when asked.
(speaking only for those who feel this way, of course)
