No...not that the Russians have revived a 30,000 year old plant...
http://apnews.excite.com/article/2012022...BEI80.html
Quote:MOSCOW (AP) - It was an Ice Age squirrel's treasure chamber, a burrow containing fruit and seeds that had been stuck in the Siberian permafrost for over 30,000 years. From the fruit tissues, a team of Russian scientists managed to resurrect an entire plant in a pioneering experiment that paves the way for the revival of other species.
The Silene stenophylla is the oldest plant ever to be regenerated, the researchers said, and it is fertile, producing white flowers and viable seeds.
But rather that American creationist morons will insist that the seeds can't be more than 6,000 years old!

pathetic!! (re: cretinists/ theists)
So they (Russians) have revived this plant material and it produces viable seed?? Hope then for Svalbard Global Seed Vault then?

Wiki Wrote:Oldest viable seed
Seeds may be viable for hundreds and even thousands of years. The oldest carbon-14-dated seed that has grown into a viable plant was a Judean date palm seed about 2,000 years old, recovered from excavations at Herod the Great's palace in Israel.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seedbank

There absolutely has to be boatloads of money in resurrecting extinct megafauna. Big game is big business. At least now we'd have something to feed them..so that's step one..lol.

You know guys, the animal isn't just genetic code.
The environment and even behavioral cues are unknown to us, and we'll probably find a "resurrected" extinct cloned specimen to undergo extreme stress and expire prematurely as we try to discover, probe and improve what we're missing.
The first viable, born clones of an old species are slated for a rather poor quality of life before we understand enough of their requirements other than "Get DNA, try to birth organism."
Then again, knowing humans and their predilection for showing off, I expect the very first "extinct" cloned animals will be shown off in hopes of getting more funding.

No, it's clearly been put there to test our faith. And obviously it's proof against evilution, 'cos, y'know - squirrels. Or it's something to do with a conspiracy.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
