Any particular reason you chose C++ over other languages, like Java for instance?
Because looking through the 'jobs vacant' he saw far many C++ jobs than anything else and he's looking to a possible career change.
A career change from what? Usually most programming jobs require a degree in Computing / Computer Science, plus experience in the industry.
Are you willing to go to a University or communtiy college? That's where I got my C++ training.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
To be honest, it's worth learning multiple languages anyway, so you can apply your skills in numerous different types of environment. Java is my compiled language of choice, but I know a little C++. PHP / Ruby covers me for interpreted languages, though I want to learn Python as well. I know Bash / TCL for scripting (and use both at work).
Actually, Java looks quite nice as well so you might want to look at that.
The benefits you get with Java are that it is very easy to learn, and the same code can be compiled to work on multiple different platforms. It's also very popular in the industry.
Download the NetBeans IDE and have a play around: http://netbeans.org |
