Do moderators have access to PM's sent between members?

Yes. Administrators can access them as a large list via the Admin CP. Moderators would have to sign in as other people's accounts (which they have the ability to do in order to help change settings, etc). Anyone with root access to the server (currently theVOID, Synackaon, and I) could also theoretically access them via the database.

Do you think there are ever good reasons for accessing such PM's for any reason whatsoever?

Yes. We have caught multiple spammers this way. We have also caught numerous trolls and sock accounts (malicious ones) by the gloating PMs they send to other people.

This shouldn't be news to people; we've been quite open about this ever since Saerules was banned a couple of years ago after failing to report and actively encouraging a troll who revealed himself to her in a PM. In addition, we make it very clear when signing up that we have the ability to do this:

Yes the staff do read pm's as Lilly was particularly offended that this was so a while back.

People report PMs, bullying etc happens over PMs. Staff have the ability to check them, but personal privacy should be respected. I know Tibs has a very relaxed attitude towards personal information, and being aware of that I direct any personal conversations off site.

I haven't been around long enough to know who Saerules is but I can believe I checked yes to whatever so fair enough. I have to say, I wouldn't want to do it but then I don't have any idea what it takes to maintain this forum as a place where a wide range of people can have at it.

Your respponses fall on deaf ears. she cannot understand how what she did was wrong and a breach of community trust. I sent LMA a pretty bad PM description of Tib and Shell as well yet here i am, still good and going without a single warning level raised.

Could I? That depends entirely on the security of your email server. Why on earth would I want to hack your email anyway?

Let's make something quite clear here; the staff do not spend their free time reading through every single PM that is sent...that would be absurd. We have no interest in most PMs, just the ones that contain things which breach our forum rules (rules apply to everything, not just posts).

The fucking PM was insulting in and of itself. She clearly seeks to hide the things that she said behind feigned innocence. She screwed her own intent by sending something like that to a member who she had never even spoken to!

She has been calling me all manner of names and having private conversations with numerous members about how horrible I am (over lies about things I never said) for months now. I believe you are biased. Until yesterday, the only thing I ever did was disagree with her, which made her uber upset. Yesterday, I did attack her and let it all out.
