JESUS CHRIST: Myth or Historical Person?

Oh, I love this kind of crap. If Jesus was truly divine, why would he confine himself to only one small area? Why wouldn't he travel throughout Europe, Scandanavia, Asia, the Pacific Islands, Australia, the Americas, etc, etc...? Why wouldn't he want his message to be heard everywhere? Why wouldn't he want everyone to know who he is?
ALTER2EGO -to- THOR:
There are three reasonable explanations for that, as follows:

1. A person does not show up with a new religious teaching that nobody ever heard of before and attempts to spread it all around the world before he's even had the chance to establish it among his very own people. If you can find an instance in history when that has ever been done, let me know.

2. There were no airplanes back then. It took weeks and sometimes months by sea to reach another part of the world. Jesus knew he would be killed within three years in order to redeem mankind from Adamic death. His time on this planet was limited, and he knew it. But here you are wanting him to spend months at a time at sea traveling around the world where he didn't even speak the language to—as you put it—"throughout Europe, Scandanavia, Asia, the Pacific Islands, Australia, the Americas, etc, etc..." Do you realize how ridiculous you sound?

3. The most important reason why Jesus presented his spiritual truths only to the Jews initially was because the Jews were in a covenant relationship with Jehovah, and God instructed him to concentrate on presenting his message to the Jews. Thereafter, the message would be expanded to other parts of the world by his disciples during the normal course of events. In other words, things were to be done in an orderly fashion. According to you, Jesus was supposed to hop on the next boat to Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, etc. for months at time and disobey his heavenly Father. In fact, during his brief time on earth, Jesus himself said the following.

" I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative; just as I hear, I judge; and the judgment that I render is righteous, because I seek, NOT MY OWN WILL, but the will of him that sent me." (John 5:30)

Ah, right. Here are your reasons, put more succinctly:

1) Because he was just a dude.

2) Because he was just a dude.

3) Because he was just a Jew dude.

Thanks for that.

"His very own people"? Excuse me, but don't you think we are ALL "God's people"?

Yeah, so? Wasn't your Jesus divine? He could walk on water but he couldn't instantaneously transport himself somewhere if he so desired?

And this prevented him from traveling elsewhere to bring others into his fold? I'm smelling bullshit.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

An abusive relationship.

I am amused by the way you try to prop up one biblical piece of shit by pointing to still another turd.

About ten actually. Pretty sure he broke all of them.,because the sneaky bastard liked to add conditions he knew people could not keep.(What with being omniscient and all)

I presume you mean the Abrahamic covenant;most Christians I run across are unaware of the others..

Apart from Abraham almost certainly being a mythical figure. YHVH broke that covenant by allowing the Holocaust.

PS how the fuck do you get 'Jehovah" out of YHVH (Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh) There is no 'j' letter or sound in Hebrew.. "Yahweh" is also wrong; the letter 'V' is usually pronounced 'vav'.

Oh for fuck sake!

Jesus was a pious Jew. The religion he taught was traditional Judaism; you had to be a Jew or convert to belong to his sect. That tiny Jewish sect was de-Jewified only after Jesus' death, especially by Paul,to become "Christianity". There are no new ideas, moral codes or theology in Christianity.

That's the story they tell, Pad. I suspect that most of it is not true.

Really bad mistranslation of a mistake. When the tetragrammaton (YHVH) appears in the bible the Jews almost invariably replace it with Adonai (YY). Somewhere in a place far, far away, someone got the stupid idea to place the nikkudim (vowel points introduced in the 6th? century) of Adonai under the tetragrammaton and it transliterates as a bastardization of YAHOOVAH. So god is really a search engine/vacuum cleaner mix....suck it google Smile
