In my experience, there are two types of friends. Those that like you, the individual, and those whose friendship is contingent upon certian factors, i.e your religion. The former do not care if you change, and the latter are not worth pretending to be something you're not just to keep their friendship.
From what I can tell though, you are not ready to deal with all of that. Are you sure there isn't one non-theist friend you could tell in confidence, making sure they won't tell anyone else?
