Old techno-dill here:

Is there a simple way I can access my [cable internet] PC from a remote, third party PC and download content?

Ah,there is no longer a free version.

S'OK, I obtained one called " Real VNC" which seems OK. I'll need to do a bit of reading to understand what I'm doing. So far not entirely sure I've grasped the concept.

What I mean is I don't understand exactly how it works.

I install it on my PC. Does that mean I can access another PC from mine,or mine from another PC,or both?

What exactly is happening? Is there another server involved?

These are rhetorical questions to illustrate what I mean by a need to do some reading.

Worst comes to worst, I guess I'll be forced to read the instructions. Confused Fall

Let me tell you what I use mine for.

My son is an IT person back in NY. Every so often he jumps in and I see my cursor flying all over the screen while he does something or other.

I use it with my tablet so I can access my computer and files when traveling.

I have no idea how to set it up but the damned thing does work.

You may have to read the directions.

You have to install it on your PC in order to access your PC remotely. You'll also probably have to forward some ports on your internet router, though it depends.

Do you need this to access your computer whilst you're not there, or can you use something like Remote Desktop?

I want it so I can access my PC from my brother's or sister's pc to download big files direct. Will it also work on from a Mac?
