Why Kaspersky Pure 2.0 can suck a fat one.

Why Kaspersky Pure 2.0 can suck a fat one.
Kaspersky Pure 2.0. Some of you may know it as the most expensive package Kaspersky can offer, some of you might even of made the mistake that because Kaspersky is a relatively good anti-virus that they should view that package as the best ultimate super golden 20-inch cock extension 6000 with all the bells and whistles anti-virus you could get on the market... well ok, maybe not.
But the point is I did because thats how my brains wired. Imagine my surprise when the firewall comes crumbling down. Being a sad and paranoid sort I restarted immediately and pulled the phone line out. This has happened four times in the last two weeks. I won't go into how much I paid but suffice to say this isn't good enough. I don't care if Steam can make your system vulnerable, I know it can. Thats why I bought this fucking thing, to guard those vulnerabilities so I can rest easy.
All I can hope now is that a back-door hasn't been installed or the doomsday device isn't ticking inside my pc waiting to go off at the most horrifically inconvenient time. I'm still waiting for Kasperskys back-up disk which they forgot to post to me. Why, oh why did I subscribe to TWO YEARS of this? Oh right, best ultimate super golden 20-inch cock extension 6000 with all the bells and whistles. You know, if I surfed porn sites and piratebay or whatever the fuck they're calling it now I could understand, that'd basically be akin to karmic retribution but this is ridiculous.

Anyway, I suppose this is a warning of sorts. Just because its expensive doesn't make it indestructible or even the best. Any advice would be welcome but I'm not expecting anything revelatory. If Kasperskys support centre come up with a set of variables that amounts to "dunno" then I'm not expecting an answer here.

Ha, you and me both. I'm not exactly an expert, more like a dabbler. I'm to computing what Guybrush Threepwood is to pirating... google it.
Anyway, I don't know much about MS Security Essentials but my Which? subscription does.
If you haven't heard of it Which? is a reviewer of *everything* but with a difference... its completely unbiased. Which is why a subscription is so bloody expensive.

As it goes MS Security Essentials didn't score that badly but that was among the free anti viruses. One downside to using a free anti-virus is that it depends on windows firewall unless you pay for one separately. While windows firewall isn't terrible it isn't the maximum security you could get.

Their number one best buy was an anti-virus I had never heard of called "Bullguard Internet Security 12". It excelled in virtually all areas according to Which? except networking. If you only want to use this to keep one pc safe then its perfect but it has no tools for managing a network of pcs. I know what you're asking; "Why didn't you get it?". Well four reasons; I forgot, I had never heard of it which is a stupid reason in foresight, Which? doesn't solely review for pcs so I doubted how far their expertise extended in that area, they had not reviewed Kaspersky PURE 2.0. so I assumed their reviews would be out of date and PURE was the next batch of freshly baked cookies that would leave a crumbly sweet taste in my mouth like no other. Suffice to say all four reasons were wrong and what I now taste in my mouth is more akin to a steaming pile of horse shit.

I'm not going to make a recommendation but I can honestly tell you if I could travel back in time I would firstly hook past me for the aforementioned transgressions, I would then explain to his... my unconscious body that it would be a better idea to purchase "Bullguard Internet Security 12". I would then give him a kick for good measure and get back in the police box.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I know you can turn off windows firewall.
I don't know about those two. Might check them out. Like I said, I'm not an expert.
I'm the guy who put a rig together, put all the software I needed on to it, overclocked it and hoped I wouldn't die when my luck inevitably assured it caught light.
Turns out it didn't catch light, I was very surprised.
I can only assume it has something more horrible planned for me.

Shit happens.

So what happenned? Your K firewall stopped working? Or you actually suffered damage?

You should never think that you're completely safe. Spending money is no guarantee. Personally I think Which are shit at IT advice. Go check out a reliable source like http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Keep your O/S and Apps patched and up to date. Expect risks and use your computer accordingly.

You're not far off, its an anti-virus program... well... actually you were far off. But A for effort. Its not working out too well which is perplexing considering the guy running the show used to be in some kind of Russian equivalent to the FBI.
You would of thought he'd be ontop of things.
