Wozniak warns of dark cloud
Quote:But the engineering wizard behind the progenitor of today's personal computer, the Apple II, was most outspoken on the shift away from hard disks towards uploading data into remote servers, known as cloud computing.
"I really worry about everything going to the cloud," he said. "I think it's going to be horrendous. I think there are going to be a lot of horrible problems in the next five years."
He added: "With the cloud, you don't own anything. You already signed it away" through the legalistic terms of service with a cloud provider that computer users must agree to.

I personally never liked the idea from the beginning, this only reinforces my misgivings.

That is exactly how I am. I just love to have hard copies of things. It is more intimate.

So burn them to disk? It's quite simple.

In regards to the cloud, I'm not sure what contracts Wozniak is reading, but ownership of the data doesn't change. I have my data backed up to cloud servers in case my hard drive fails. It's all encrypted using a 448-bit key, and it's all owned by myself.

Nah, that just isn't the same as having the actual product. From album art to the smell of a new record, it is all important. Big Grin

Why is this under Atheism? It needs to be moved to Technology & Computing.
