I find it sad that someone across the Atlantic can figure that out, but people like A Theist can't quite get their pointy little heads around the concept.

Yup, and I only pay attention to US politics because it makes me chuckle uncontrollably.

Well, since you are obviously dead set on making yourself look like a moron, let's compare shall we?

Planned Parenthood = Less than $300 million from the federal government & that is if you use the loosest definition possible, which we know you will.

Quote:Planned Parenthood’s 2008-2009 annual report states that it received $363.2 million in "Government Grants and Contracts." (See page 29.) That’s about one-third of its total revenues for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.

However, not all of that money is from the federal government. Planned Parenthood’s government funding comes from two sources: the Title X Family Planning Program and Medicaid. About $70 million is Title X funding, Planned Parenthood spokesman Tait Sye told us. The rest — about $293 million — is Medicaid funding, which includes both federal and state money.

Military spending = $1.4 Trillion

Do you understand what "order of magnitude" means? Not only are you not comparing apple & oranges, you aren't even using fruit.
....sure. Cut where we have to. But I still want to see Planned Parenthood defunded of Federal money. Let it stand on private money.

Whatever any presidential candidate may promise, there is only so much they can do within the constitutional powers of that office. They can't write the bills, they only sign them into law or veto them. When the republicans dig in and refuse to make any good faith effort to solve the country's problems until their candidate is president it makes it a little tough to get much done. Regardless, for those who care about progressive causes, its better to have a president in office ready to sign them into law than one who is eager to veto them.

Is it because you want to see more poor people die from easily preventable cancers or do you want to see even more unwanted children being born due to a lack of cheap & readily available birth control?

Or is it because you don't like to see victims of rape & incest get much needed counseling?

Welcome to civilization. It's not ala carte'.

But we still have to learn from history. I know you conservatives want to wipe the slate clean and pretend that time began on Jan 1, 2009 but life doesn't work that way.

1. Bush proved that conservative economic, social and foreign policy don't work. I've still yet to hear you refute that with anything more than "...but the Democrats..."
2. Bush fucked up this country and the world badly. So badly that we're going to spend the next 20 years cleaning it up (40 with Republican obstruction).

Yes but it's a two party system, like it or not. I'm voting the lesser evil since it keeps the Republican wrecking crew from destroying my country and the world which its a member of any further.

Quote:Again, it may come as a shock, but Bush isn't the president. Obama's the president....as far as which economy I prefer, I want the one Obama promised. The one he promised to deliver before the end of his 'first' term.

Dodge noted. Now answer the question. It's a simple "yes" or "no" answer that's called for.

Be warned, if you would not make that trade, you admit Obama has done a better job than Republicans with the economy.

While that may be true, we still haven't undone the policies initiated by Bush. In fact, most of those policies are being championed, or in some cases taken to an extreme, by today's GOP.

No, as disillusioned as I am with Obama and the Democrats, the idea of the Republicans in power, especially as crazy extreme as the Republican party has gotten, has me scared out of my mind. If, realistically, the vote came down to Obama vs. Jill Stein, I'd vote for Stein all the way. Thing is, it isn't down to them. Realistically, it's down to Obama and Romney and, yes, I'd much rather Obama win.

What if you had to choose the economy we had at the end of 8 years of Bill Clinton's presidency, or the economy we had at the end of 8 years of Bush's presidency, which one would you choose there? Remember when we were debating what to do with a budget surplus in 1999? Remember when Clinton was being criticized when gas prices went up to $1.30 a gallon? Do you remember what we were debating in 2008, after 8 years of Bush in office (most of that time congress just rubber stamping whatever he wanted)? We were talking about giant bail outs to the banking industry, massive budget deficits and a recession. That's a big change in 8 years, isn't it? And if the next Republican presidency will be anything like the last one, why on earth would anyone vote for him?

You said it yourself in a previous post that we had "amazing economic growth" under Bill Clinton because Clinton and the Republicans were willing to work together and to make some compromises....
Quote:Interestingly enough, the closest to that we've had was the Clinton presidency. While the Republicans were in power most of that time, they were more than willing to make compromises here and there in order to make progress. So Clinton was able to accomplish more of what he wanted than Obama has of what he's wanted and Clinton presided over a period of general peace and amazing economic growth.
You also pointed out that Clinton was able to accomplish more of what he wanted than Obama has. Obama is just one more combatant in Washington. Democrats are deflecting and distracting from Obama's failed promises.
Obama is the current president.
Candidate Obama promised to make changes to cut the national debt in half, cut spending, create 'shovel ready' green jobs.
Obama has done the opposite of what he promised and increased federal spending. Our national debt is now reaching $16 trillion dollars. He now says there no shovel ready jobs and the unemployment rate remains above 8% and the liberals distract and deflect.
Which economy would you prefer? The one we have now or the one that Obama promised?

I love how Republicans now fondly remember Clinton as a golden age of compromise, bipartisanship and general inter-party respect.

It just goes to show you there's something wrong with the conservative brain that they can't remember anything more that a few years ago.

MEMORY LANE TIME: You impeached the guy! And this after Congressional hearing after hearing inquiring over one manufactured scandal after another. Finally, they got him on getting a blow job and impeached him for it. There are only two sitting presidents in history who have ever been impeached and he was one of them.

Quote:Obama is just one more combatant in Washington.

I wish that were true.

Quote:Obama's failed promises.

A-Theist, would you trade the economy we have now for the economy we had in Dec 2008?

Pick one answer: Yes / No
