I love debates and I got myself a formal debate in Christian Forums but they gave me a 3-day ban. I'm not sure I should go back there and start that debate because I think they hate me there and will ban me if I say the wrong things again and I'm sure to say the wrong things. I do hope to be able to get into the thick of some formal debate with someone. But although I'm a Christian, there is nothing I can debate with an atheist about. We probably agree on everything. I'd rather debate with a Christian.

Pfft, you are hardly a Christian... Tongue

Then what am I? I accept God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I accept the Nicene Creed, the Apostles' Creed and the Athanasian Creed. By Christian Forums' standard, I am a Christian. They just require compliance with the Nicene Creed.

If I may add, I was singing in the cathedral on my avatar until Easter when they pulled me out because I've reached that age when I'm going to lose my voice. Just then, my dad moved to this country where I am now, so it was all for the better. In other words, I served the church in the choir until I was rendered "unfit". And I continued to serve as an altar boy. Right now, in this new country, I'll be starting altar duties soon. I'm probably the most pious Christian boy on the planet.

But I have to be honest. That's the only thing that differentiates me from some other Christians. There is absolutely no evidence or rational justification for God or faith. Many Christians hate to admit this but it's true. I honestly believe all Christians KNOW this is true but they just don't dare to admit it to themselves. And they don't dare to debate on it either. They know they haven't got a leg to stand on.

You are going to drive me insane if you keep repeating stuff like this!

I don't understand how you can continue to be a Christian.

You have faith in things unknown without turning it into dead certainty in all the biblical and canonical dogma. Seems like a very pure form of faith to me. You are sufficiently agnostic to earn my respect. The theism question is of less consequence to me.

Apparently, the man believes in the god myth, but acknowledges that there is absolutely no hard evidence in favor of that "world view"... there's just a book.... with all it's dubious origins, translations and adaptations.
He believes without evidence.
Isn't that the definition of faith?

Surely the other Christians are the ones who should drive you insane? All Christians believe in a faith that has no evidence and no rational justification. You know that. We all KNOW that. What's wrong if some of us want to admit the truth? Must ALL Christians be liars? I think it's the other Christians who will drive me insane with either their obstinacy or dishonesty. I'm not sure which is the more compelling trait.

I think it's because I've been an altar boy all my conscious life. I've been an altar boy since I was 5. It seems like disloyalty to leave the church just because I know about the flaws of an ancient religion.

The ancient Egyptian religion was about 4 thousand years old when everyone just sort of... left.
Now they're mostly muslims.... go figure!
