9/11 Truthers
#11
RE: 9/11 Truthers
Hey,

I appreciate your response. A video is much cooler than a wiki link, I like it. I very much appreciate your opinion, and cannot disagree that the video you posted refuted the point I made. I maintain that the speed and nature of the destruction of the buildings cannot (in my mind) be described as by the 'official story'. I don't argue that I was right then, but that my premise still stands, that it was not factual as laid out in the official investigation. But on other and larger points than just that one. I would hope none of us make a strict claim without many (what they feel as) solid reasons. I also throw myself at your mercy (in a way) because it is all interpretive. Just like the argument about evidence of God, that it is almost impossible to receive the hearsay information without a bias one way or the other. We are left to make our best assumptions, and disagreeing is certainly a possible outcome. I just can hear all of you already, with the 'he won't conform when given proof'. I would like to try to step past that with the fact that the situation (as we know) is much larger and more complex than the one point that Adrian seems to have scored, and it alone, regardless of validity, cannot be expected to persuade myself to change an idea of such size.

If I may, let me try another way. I knew the morning of the incident that the lies were already bring cooked up. One way or another, regardless of the level of government involvement in any way, that America could only act one way about such an event. I said to people with me that morning that the US would pick a person and a country and punish them both for world spectacle. It was natural. That is what America does, as is so apparent in it's short and unfortunate history. That could start a whole other thread, history...

I knew that the powers that be would try to control, manipulate and benefit from the situation. Again, from the lowest level of post-incident involvement to the highest premeditation, whichever turned out to be true. When seen alone, it is such a crazy moment. But taken along with all of the rest of Americas history with Arab nations, foreign policy, and (both sides of) terrorism, it seems to me that we should be very sceptical of what any official (governmental) information says.

Did David Rovics say it well with "Is it the latest Lusitania, or another Reichstag fire,"?

And again, it is all interpretive. You and I can hold things to be true and argue over them. We are trying to establish a conformity with the truth that is not interpreted at all. That, I think, is an impossible argument to complete, especially with the constraints of our electronic relationship. I can only argue what I think and what I know personally, and speak for no one but myself, and of nothing but interpretation. I would forward it is what we all do.

I doubt anything I can say will save me now.

I am going to sleep, and hoping this makes more sense in the morning. Thanks for your patience at least guys. Smile

Pippy,

I have no disagreement that the reaction to the events was completely out of hand. I agree with you that the basis for the Iraq war was illegal (although I think bringing down Saddam has done only good). However there is a difference between the position of "the 9/11 event was planned by the government / is being covered up by the government" and the position of "the way the government handled 9/11 was wrong".

Yes, America put all the blame on the wrong people, but there are two ways of looking at it:

1) Either America set 9/11 in motion, attacking their own country, killing their own citizens (or even just allowing it to happen, which is worse IMO) to attack foreign countries like Afghanistan & Iraq.

2) 9/11 happened because terrorists planned it and executed it without the government's knowledge. Once it happened, the government saw the "silver lining"; that with such a devastating attack, the people of America would support any invasion of foreign soil, because it looked like retribution.

It is far more likely, in my opinion, that the government were caught off guard for various reasons (the CIA and FBI are not omniscient after all), and that they saw how to turn such an attack into a reason to go to war to take down old enemies.

Adrian I could not have agreed more. It is a very good analysis of 9/11

Well said Adrian ... IMO people who believe there was a significant conspiracy (outside of the US Government using the event to further their own aims) are just as gullible as those who don't deny or doubt the Moon landings (and of course those idiot Holocaust deniers).

I had replied on the other one about the 9/11 attacks...

I'll post it again here......For two planes to hit both buildings (Don't forget about the third) and both fall so perfectly etc. etc... That's a bit much in my book...

One, maybe......but two?? Those statistics even out do a lotto winner hitting twice in a week...

I don't doubt the religious whack jobs taking part in it, but for a plane to simply hit the building (PERFECTLY) and it go down (PERFECTLY), again, is a bit much....(And again, don't forget about the third building)....

You do realize how easy it was to take over the planes right? They had 4-5 hijackers per plane, with weapons (and fake weapons) they managed to get aboard. Once they had access to the cockpit, they could lock the doors.

All they had to do then was turn the plane around and aim at the two largest towers in New York City.

As for your statistics, I call bullshit. I'd like to see the calculation that you obviously didn't do before you pulled that analogy out of your ass.

Finally, please explain what requirements you have to have for a plane hitting a building to be called "perfect", likewise with buildings collapsing. I can find many more videos of demolitions that are more "perfect" than what happened on that fateful day, and I also find it deeply ironic that you mention building 7 in the same sentence, given that the cause of building 7 collapsing was debris from the "perfect" collapse of the other two buildings...

I definetly don't believe we are being told the truth by the US government. I recently watched a documentary called Loose Change. Check it out, check out it's references and find out for yourself.
