I know! In Texas Holdem if you get an above average hand you are lucky if anyone else even has two pair. In Omaha you see everything. Early on I went all in with what appeared to be the nut high flush only to find someone else had made a straight flush. I've busted a four of a kind myself with a straight flush too. Wild and wooly and complex as hell.

The Secret World.
Modern Horror done right. H.P.Lovecraft meets Poe and King. A zombiepocalyps, black goo, mutated monsters, an evil coorporation, and all hell literally breaking loose.

I know most MMOers will just go for GW2, but Secret world is just...better. Except in crafting, lol.
It has one of the most amazing story lines I've ever played in an MMO, going back to EQ. It has a unique, very creepy feeling, and extreme customizability in both abilities (no classes, every skill is avaliable to everyone if you work for it), and clothing. I love not having armor change my appearance. In the gathering areas, almost no one looks the same, since their are hundreds of different tops, pants, skirts, coats, shoes, hats, glasses, etc. And lots of great weapon skins.
Another awesome feature is lots of original puzzle quests. not all just killx of x (though that still exists), there are James BonD style subterfuge missions, as well as missions that require real puzzle solving skills, and even looking up info in the real world (hence the in game google interface).

I found the 5 man instances to be extremely creative and interesting, and the bosses more fun than any I've fought in years and years.

It had a bumpy launch (rare that an MMO doesn't), but is really hitting it's stride now.

I am not currently playing it (stopped a couple months ago due to being too freaking busy), but hope to again next month, when the family will all get a little more free time.

Indeed. If the board makes a higher hand possible than what you hold... at a full table... if you run into a lot of resistance...

...someone else has it.

You are all incorrect. The correct answer is Waking Mars by Tiger Style Games.

Hmm, that's a tough one, i'd say Halo 4, Borderlands 2, or AC3

Word up. Patience is rewarded but you have to know what is possible as well as what is likely.

Where do play? I just play for funny money on PokerStars and my avatar there is the same as here.

After trying to answer this question, I realized that the only game from 2012 I have played is Max Payne 3. I'm going to get a few for Christmas, so I reserve my right to not have to name the game of the year until the actual end of the year.

I'd have said the same, but as you say, the ending is just a kick in the teeth as far as I'm concerned.

Haven't played AC3 yet (I still need to catch up with the series, they seem to have released loads of AC games lately) but I'm sure that's good. And I'll reserve judgement on COD when I get it for xmas Tongue

Besides that what other games are really game of the year material? I can't really think of any.

Given how ME was a series that sucked you in because of the story, the characters, and the player-constructed narrative, ME3 WAS a kick in the teeth. A drop-kick no less.

Seriously. What happened to the Dark Energy subplot that was building in the second game? What happened to Reapers all being different-looking according to the species they were built from? What happened to the Protheans being effectively decapitated and incapable of organization? What happened to any romances you had going with anyone introduced from ME2? Seriously, what the fuck was with all the cut-to-black romance sequences? What the fuck was with the photoshopped stock photo being used for Tali? What happened to over half the decisions you made in ME2 that should've had some repercussions in ME3? How the HELL did Cerberus get a hold of ANYTHING from the Collector base if you blew it to atoms?! Seriously! I blew the Collector base into fucking radioactive DUST and yet Cerberus, months later, gets a hold of pieces of the proto-human Reaper?! HOW?! SHIT DOES NOT STOP ACCELERATING IN SPACE ONCE ACCELERATED! And how'd they get through the relay?! The Normandy was the only ship with a Reaper IFF tag! Any other ship going through WILL end up FTLing into a god-damn debris field! Why the hell did humanity and all the council races DO FUCKING NOTHING for two years even with all the data Shepard and the Normandy crew had on their engagements with the Reapers that were proof as clear as day of the Reaper threat?! And what the fuck happened to the Reapers' motivation being, if I may quote Harbinger, "beyond your comprehension"?! REALLY?! BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION?! THE FUCKING REAPERS EXIST TO ANNIHILATE AND "PRESERVE" [bullshit!!] races...to keep them from being annihilated by artificial constructs...WHICH NOW SUDDENLY THAT IS ALL THEY ARE! What the hell happened to the Reapers each being a "sovereign; an independent nation utno themselves," as LEGION pointed out?! Suddenly they're all just a fucking single mind via that stupid shoehorned plot device known as the "star child"?! WHY? HOW? WHEN?!

The fact that the original writer left before the game was completed and that the ending that was given to us seemed like it was hastily crammed in there at the last fucking second, and that the original writer of the first two games wasn't even credited in the third one, is REALLY fucking telling. And then they get this EA-produced guy who while isn't the lead writer nevertheless is the one credited while the original is not.

And Bioware's reaction to the outcry of hatred towards the original ending was MOST telling. They have stopped caring. About their fans or their creative efforts. They're no longer in it for the artistic expression, they're in it for the bottom-line profit motive.

Fuck you, Bioware. I'm not buying Dragon Age 3 [especially after the unplayable-y bad DA2] and I sure as fuck won't be buying anything else by you assholes ever again. You've made your choice, you canuckian dicks, good luck ever getting my fucking money ever again with the shit you asslickers pulled. Cunts.

Anyway. I dunno. AC3's ending may be "bad" but they've as good as come out as saying that AC3 is NOT the ending of the series...where ME3 WAS the ending to the series. Or the series as we know it anyway. But AC3 WILL continue in the same vein, just different characters, so...

I've rambled long enough. XD

The only thing which really stops ME3 being a brilliant game IMO, is that there isn't a definitive 'good' ending. No matter what you do you get screwed over somehow, and none of your actions mean shit. That's what hurts the most.
