Extra Dimensions

Um, many physicists now disagree with time being a "dimension" in the classical sense, and many also believe it to be a property of the universe and not a fundamental part of the structure. In other words time could sit inside the universe, or the universe could sit inside time as opposed to time being a constrained "wall" of the universe.

Here's a Link that basically explains the direction of this theory that separates time from spacetime.

I think you quoted the wrong person. Didn't mention time at all in my post.

That's why I kept it separate from the spacial dimensions. The link you provided says that scientists are abolishing time as the 4th dimension of space. I never said it was a dimension of space...I said there were 3 spacial dimensions and one of time. This is, as I currently understand it at least, still what scientists teach.

RE: Extra Dimensions
Well yes, they currently teach 4-dimensional space-time (ie general relativity). They also teach Newtonian Mechanics. But this direction that is gaining momentum is abandoning time as a dimension. Three physical dimensions, and time is NOT a dimension. So define "generally accepted" because I don't think it is. It may be "de-facto" accepted by those who study other areas of physics, but the debate and the research is ongoing, and it would only be being researched as widely as it is if it was "not" generally accepted.

RE: Extra Dimensions
I have heard one possibility for the weakness of gravity to be the existence of extra dimensions.

Quote:In a scenario that contains a large number of extra dimensions but confines the fundamental forces other than gravity on a 3-brane, only the strength of gravity is diluted by the other dimensions. In this case, the weakness of gravity could literally be due to the large unobserved volume in extra spacetime dimensions.

I saw a program sometime ago on TV that talked about some quarks reportedly going missing in the Large Hadron Collider. They reckon that they could have been jumping to another dimension and this is possibly what gravity somehow does as you have said.

Ah yes, the missing quarks problem, shall we say goddidit or shall we investigate gentlemen?

Typical christian reaction, claims somebody nice made it all, and then seeks to find somebody else to blame for it going wrong.

Or any other immaginative thing we can muster. I'd wager god, your most precious ego, is dumb enough to understand quarks.

ETA: damn not you jonb, Aractus.

And that is the whole sherbatsky shithead reasoning religionists use for their own ignorance. Question is, how far are you going to to lie for your belief?
