I do feel sorry for any minority, not just atheists, but for example, in a Shiite dominated country, any Sunni or non Muslim, including any Christians or Jews or atheists or gays who might live in those countries as minorities. It really has to be oppressive.
So when liberal Christians or conservative Christians or atheists or Jews in the west bitch about others bitching I want to bitch slap them. Holly fuck, in the secular world we all get to go home at night without fear. We can bitch and agree not to physically harm each other.
In oppressive countries you say boo and you end up in jail or dead.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

Um, Shias tend to be more liberal than most Sunnis-- Iran's government being the exception rather than the rule.

Not necessarily. That depends on a lot of things. Not every corner of the "secular world" (by this I assume you mean what's commonly referred to as "The West") is the same, even within the same countries, nor is every inhabitant in the same position vis-a-vis "getting to go home at night without fear"

Again, depends.

Not seeing how this is much different from the US, honestly, except that we're not locking up and killing political dissidents too often, just large portions of the poor and working-class, particularly non-white ones. Furthermore have you ever considered that Western, supposedly democratic and pluralistic countries are just as oppressive but have more sophisticated tools of social control so don't need to resort to brute force as often?
