Near Death Experiences
#11
RE: Near Death Experiences
I remember my grandpa`s death. He started singing hitler youth propaganda songs.

Just like alot of old folks here, when they die they start singing the nazi era propaganda songs.

I ask myself what that must be like, being so indoctrinated that this is the last thing one goes through.

Whatever the case is, the brain obviously at the end records the memory. Whether the memory is reliable or not, cannot be proven to anyone outside those experiencing the event. And if the memory is correct, there is still other explanations from it being real.

The exception is if they experienced many things in the area they claimed to be outside their body which was claimed to be a real physical place like a room in a hospital which they didn't have a chance of guessing. Of course, a claim on the internet claiming so, is no proof of this happening.

Missing from this discussion is the scientific explanation for near death experiences, which is like a release by the brain of DMT right before death, the same chemical that causes us to dream. In South America it's become fashionable for hippy gringos to take it to have spiritual experiences in the form of ayahuasca. I've met quite a few people enamored of this drug and the supposed spiritual experiences that it brings. That doesn't mean that it's anything more than a psychedelic trip.

RE: Near Death Experiences
I'm interested in knowing whether the closer you come to physical death (your body knows it's dying), whether there is any alleviation of the feelings I experienced in mine. Lily said something that would make me think that, although I wonder if it's the effect of being drowned that causes that?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I couldn't say. The closest I have been to death was a few days, absent medical intervention (which of course occurred). The only feelings I remember was a desire for what I was experiencing to end, one way or another. However, due to my coindition by that point (a lengthy high fever and hypoxia), I would not necessarily trust any memories of the event.

Whilst true, psychedelic trips are still real experiences and it still doesn't give a reason for it happening.

Theists don't want facts, Cap'n. They want fantasy.

The reason could be any number of things. It may be an extreme form of pain management, a one upped version of us going into shock. While I haven't had a near death experience, I have gone into shock before and that was interesting to say the least. I can only imagine what the DMT near death trip is like. I don't think we know why it happens, but we more or less know what is happening and we can be fairly of what is not happening.

I don't think we can ever be fairly sure of what is not happening if we think 96% of this universe is unknown.
