As an atheist I've got to pick an admirable theist. That isn't hard. There are many. The one I appreciate most off the top of my head is Bill Moyers, the news journalist who mostly broadcasts on our public television stations.

Being theist or atheist doesn't take genius and neither does it rule it out. Mostly I don't care what people think about the great unknown, unless they're intent on shoveling it down my throat.

This isn't a question I normally address, simply because I tend not to regard people as belonging to certain categories, nor do I base any admiration or disdain I might have for them on those categories. If I had to choose, however, I'd probably say Prof Kenneth Miller, the noted molecular biologist who also happens to be a Roman Catholic; with the caveat that it is his work in his chosen field that I can admire, over and above his personal beliefs. Though his opposition to the creationism/IDiocy farce goes a long way with me as well.

Were I to pick a theist for their position actually as a theist, I might go for someone like Ray Comfort, Kent Hovind or the YouTube artist known as NephilimFree, purely for the lulz as well as their unparallelled work for the atheist 'cause'.

Just till about two days ago I really respected and admired a Baptist Pastor friend of mine with whom I used to have some very good debates and sharing of knowledge and ideas on theology - till I told him I've realized that god doesn't exist altogether and his tone changed and he left me with a very odd and perplexing statement which I don't want to share here.

I'd say, the last theist I truly respect now is my own mother. She calls herself a Muslim, but she's more of a deist than a Muslim.

public figures.. comedians yeah. if they can keep a lid on it. I find myself shouting at the TV at some I find ignorant. But it's all good. for example: Gervais I like, Fry I don't.

Know the feeling rhythm - used to go to church briefly b4 I became Muslim: the people were lovely to me (milk and cookies etc...).

I went back after being Muslim for a bit: the tone totally changed and I ended up getting shouted at and treated like scum cos I just couldn't believe Jesus was God.

This really let me down an did upset me a little - you see I don't think that being a good person is about what title you take: I think it's about sincerity in relation to the truth and your willingness to value kindness over self interest. That's not something that belongs to one people.
