Who is responsible?

In a democracy is the electorate responsible for the actions of its elected government?
If your answer is no then who is?

In a democracy it would be, as their is no "electorate" other than the people themselves. In a -representative- dem or rep, the answer would seem to be yes - and - no, wouldn't it?

You rephrased your question in your post otherwise I might have quibbled that the "non-voters" are an even bigger problem than the "voters."
As bad as he got whupped in November Romney would have been crushed if these lazy motherfuckers had gotten off their asses.

Give me a candidate I wouldn't be embarrassed to check mark the box for...lol. I'd have had to go home a take a brillo pad shower if I voted in the last election.

I did not think of it as though there were a difference between voters and electorate. Those who voted and eligible voters or electorate are different terms. Although bordering upon silly every election I hear not voting is a choice also or if you don't vote don't complain ads. Or in an old saying sense evil can triumph if good voters remain silent. Non-voting would also carry the responsibility for the government.

Voting is a right, but many people see it as inconvenience, a chore, and it appears to do nothing.
Companies also play a large roll in the American Government.

Funny Louse, as smart as you attempt to portray yourself, you didn't accurately define the people that stay home on 'get a sticker because I pretended to make a choice' day.
In fact, I can solve all the world's energy problems. Put the red clamp on your left foot and the black clamp on your right; then send you into a voting booth where the 'D' and the 'R' candidates are both Zionists.
Just in case you missed my first point:

No.
In a representative democracy, we give politicians reign in governance and they act on our behalf. They thus are accountable, not us.

Then they, in turn, accountable for their own actions, are accountable -to us- for those actions when those actions do not accurately represent our wishes or best interests.
That's how it's -supposed- to work, but uh......lol.
