No they didn't. From the viewpoint of many, many others, they would have screwed themselves by keeping her. She's an embarrassment and clearly doesn't represent the values of the company that hired her, thus, they fired her. If you want to be in entertainment and in some way represent an organization, you have the obligation to represent that organization in the best possible way, and clearly this wasn't it.

Believe me, they wouldn't have fired her if they couldn't stand the hit. And believe me, the diabetic fat asses who live down here have plenty of other shows on that network they will continue to watch instead of getting up and making their own food.

PS, in case anyone was concerned about what Southerners think...

Gaston County Gazette posted a link asking what everyone thought about it on Facebook and people were writing in that it wasn't fair that Deen was booted for being racist, but some other woman was allowed to stay even though she was lesbian.

ALSO -

who gives a shit if Food Network "screwed themselves"?

I rather think it's like Starbucks telling the Christian Right they can go fuck themselves if they want to boycott for Starbucks supporting gay rights. Food Network just threw down the gauntlet: 'we don't put up with this sort of shit, and if you want to be on our payroll you'll have to keep it to yourself.'

Do we say that Starbucks screwed themselves? No one said that when Chik-fil-a made their stance...except Chik DID change their words a bit, due to the fact that there are more NICE people out there than ugly people.

No, I don't think Food Network has shit all to worry about.

Calm down there mustang. When I first posted this, all I had read was that when questioned under oath she admitting to having used the N-word sometime in her life.

The more I read about all the stuff she really said, the more I think her firing was justified.

I just needed more info.

Quote:In her deposition for the suit, Deen stated that she has used the "N Word" at times, saying "Yes, of course." [38] As a result of the controversy, Food Network announced that it would not renew her contract when it expires at the end of June 2013.[39] For the same reason, in June 2013, Smithfield Foods, the world's largest pork producer[citation needed], dropped her as a spokeswoman.

!???!!!!!

There is an entire TV network in the US which broadcasts nothing else but cook shows?????

There are some good shows on there. I like Mission Impossible with Robert Irvine. He goes into failing restaurants and fixes them. I want him to do that with some local restaurants here.

Can you not see how this would be so from our great world-renowed culinary tradition of corn dogs and big macs?

The French merely eat. We stuff our faces.

I do. There's actually quite a few programs on FN that are informative, educational and entertaining.

I'd rather watch FN than most of the other 200 channels of shit that passes for programming here.

I never was a fan of Paula Deen personally. Given the values FN holds, and that her contract was up in a few days, I don't see that they had much choice in the matter. They can always re-sign her if the legal issues are settled in her favor.

Myself, I won't miss her. There are far better personalities on that network.
