As a Christian I believed these scenes accurately portrayed the essence of Jesus's sacrifice.
The Lion Aslan playing the part of Jesus dying in exchange for a son of Adam. The queen obviously Satan. The stone Altar representing the Law.
In short, a son of adam becomes a traitor in exchange for possibility of reward from the ice queen. The lion offers his life up in place of the child. The queen kills the lion, thinking she's won through the death of the great king lion Aslan, exchanging his blood for the child's and fulfilling the sacrificial law set in place. However deep in the law it is written that an innocent sacrifice is not equal to the child's blood and thus the law itself is broken through that act. The ice queen thought she'd won per the law, but Aslan overturned the law entirely.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I'm intrigued GC, how do you deal with the complete lack of historical evidence for your god boy?
Do you just stick your fingers in your ears and go "la la la" until the naughty thoughts go away?
Or do you smash yourself repeatedly in the face with a bible until unconscious?
Either way it is blindingly obvious that you refuse to register that the scripture are historically worthless and of no import here.
BTW, the scriptures are the claim, not the evidence. Quote:You wouldn't believe it if many historians had written about Christ, you would have called them... so and so and said they wrote 2000 yrs. ago what do they know. If you believe then you would have to give up yourself and you seem to be unwilling to do so for Christ.
Completely off the point GC, the fact is they didn't write about him.
Quote:If the historians had given us proof of Christ then the scriptures would be wrong, faith is the way to salvation, then the road to knowledge of who God is.
Why would scripture be wrong if there was historical evidence to back it up?
Now you're making even less sense than usual.

I remember seeing the movie thinking how they cribbed from Mel Gibson and his portrayal of the Passion. Thing is, Aslan is not omnipotent. The forces of deep magic and the curse on the land was outside his control. A sacrifice makes more sense under circumstances like these.
It's like the soldier who leaps on the grenade to use his body to absorb the explosion and shrapnel. In so doing, he sacrifices himself to save his fellow soldiers. The grenade is outside the soldier's control and self-sacrifice was the only option.
Self-sacrifice, as an event in story-telling, makes sense only:
1. If the threat being averted is outside the sacrificee's control.
2. If the process by which the sacrifice averts, nullifies or alleviates the threat is understood.

That's all.
Why does blood sacrifice make anything better?
Just to clarify the question, Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven. How's that work exactly? What's the cause and effect between a godman bleeding on a cross and my being forgiven by the same god for the sins I've committed? Why does the blood he shed somehow atone for my sins?
How does God give us His divinity?
In God's presence there is no choice. We would be robots, unworthy of His Glory.... or want to take what He has, as Lucifer did.
Free will was the key. And the stumbling block. To make up for that, AND FOR LOVE, God came as Jesus to reconcile us to Him. And to pay the price in BLOOD for free will. We also pay the price of sin through our own physical death.
We were cursed and died at the hand of God. He was cursed and died at the hands of man. We deserved to die because of our sins. Jesus was sinless, but died anyway. That is what broke the curse against us sinners. Because, DEATH WAS ONLY MEANT FOR SINNERS! "Jesus became sin, to put sin to death on the cross."
Our Faith and Love for Him, completes the process. For that Faith we will LIVE spiritually and receive His Divinity... BE LIKE GOD!
But all this has no meaning to those without the Holy Spirit!
Jesus said: "humans can do NOTHING on their own."

"Jesus" said alot of stupid shit, so that's hardly surprising.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight.
