I gave up on the Harry Potter movies after the second one.

If you don't like them, that's fine. I never watched the "Twilight" movies, despite Cedric Diggory's tragic death.

You need to keep in mind that each book was aimed at people one year older than the previous book.

Oh, I enjoyed the books. I just couldn't get into the movies.

Never watched and never will watch Twilight.

I liked the movies because they illustrated the books. And watching everybody but Rupert Grint grow up was fun.

The Harry potter films, are "OK" to start with, but do get pretty good.

The first one comes across as as very good kids movie, where the second one is very much "what is this shit?", from 3 on wards, especially the final two [together] they get pretty good.

Re Aliens : while I enjoy Aliens, I still think the first one [Alien] is the better/best movie of that series. Aliens is a different type of film, more action that horror in space, but Alien is still my favourite.

The stellar trio got into their groove in the third one. Adding Gary Oldman to an already formidable team was just the ticket.

"Alien" was okay, but the "single survivor" trope was obvious going in.

I did like that the cast didn't know what was going to happen when John Hurt had chest pains. Some genuine reactions there, especially Veronica Cartwright. (You knew she was going to die when you say her name.)

Bohemian Rhapsody

Plot:
Well it's the abridged story of Freddie Mercury's life, along with a look into the formation of queen and all of Freddies ups/downs etc.

Thoughts:
I'm a Queen fan, so I wanted to check this out for sure. In short: It's good. Is is "amazing" ? I personally don't think so, and that's not a negative at all, just more I've seen a lot of reviews giving it 10/10 etc, when in reality it is a good film, but not the best film you'll ever see. If you like Queen, yep check it out. Take some of the scenes with a minor grain of salt, but otherwise from what I understand about Freddie's life it's some-what accurate. The chap playing Freddie has his mannerisms down to T, and the rest of the band look very much like the younger versions of the people they play, so it's not hard to suspend disbelief in that respect. Oh, and the guy playing the bassist, is the young boy from Jurassic Park.

Anyway, it's pretty good, and if you like Queen, check it out.

The Thing (1982)

Plot:
An Alien crash lands on earth in the Antarctic, and it can become anyone or assimilate any other living thing. A crew stationed out there come into contact with it and figure out that should it make it to the main land, everybody will become assimilated. But how do you find out who's real and who isn't? Also, it's really fucked up.

Thoughts:
I forgot how mental this movie really is until I watch it again. I often remember the transformation from person/animal to "thing" being not that bad, but then you see it and think "Holy shit". Is it scary? It depends on your taste, I personally don't find it scary in a "boo" kind of way, but find it horrifying in a "what the fucking hell is that?" kind of way. Some of the practical effects hold up pretty well, considering this movie is over 30 years old, and the claustrophobic/paranoia feelings that are present through out are what makes this movie as good as it is.

Worth checking out if you haven't!
