I watched The Graduate. It seems like everyone in that movie is suffering from depression, and this was supposedly considered a comedy back in the day?

Then I watched "Carnal Knowledge," which also has a main character who is seriously depressed. I guess it's interesting to see how this movie's premise was later remade countless times, especially in the '90s with TV shows like Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Friends: a character who objectifies people that he dates.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Why would depression not be a subject for comedy?

As for the other, it's just art imitating life. Sure, Jonathan was a shit stain of a human being, but that's people for you.

Constantine, (2005). Pretty good, for what it was. The glaring plot hole aside, I liked it well enough.

Wolf (1994). Jack Nicholson transforms into a werewolf. I'm afraid the movie doesn't make sense. Scenes occur, but there is not much meaning to them. It seems that in monster movies like this, it is critical to find an appropriate metaphor for what the monster represents, but the creators were unable to do so.

Nicholson is an urban guy who suddenly mans up by becoming a werewolf, which naturally makes him popular with the (rich) ladies because women crave hairy guys who are dirty with mud and smell like dog shit. And that's about it for this film.

Weird, because that was EXACTLY my take on it - a bunch of scenes in search of a movie. I don’t insist that films have some deep philosophical underpinning, but they should at least be cohesive, ffs.

I started to watch The Beastmaster on YouTube last night, but out of consideration for my SO's better taste, desisted when she entered the room.

I don’t know why she’d object…
