Cherry Picking

RE: Cherry Picking
I do agree that there's a point where it stops being a debate. At that point it's just humorous.

You see, I've gotten to the point where I no longer see humor in any of it. I just feel shame to be part of the same species.

Debating people like GC is like practicing your karate on a kid in a wheel chair, only with less of a cruelty factor.

Yes, his point is, he has a god delusion.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

If you're trying to avoid debate, then you're doing it right; insulting someone is a surefire way to NOT have an intelligent conversation.

He determines the health of a cherry by careful examination of its physical appearance, and also by its feel. This concept is used as an apt analogy for how followers of religion pick and choose the good and bad from its historical and (this especially) its religious documents.

Religions come with the good, the bad, and the ugly. What I would like to discuss is the process for how this is done, the merits of doing so, and the pitfalls that are associated with it as well. Since most people here have been or are associated with Christianity, I expect there to be much talk of the Bible, but I put this in the main section of the Religion forum as to way to not exclude other faiths from the discussion.

It's also called Quote Mining. It's where you find a quote somewhere, take it out of context, and use it for your own benefit.

Yes, Ad Hominem attacks are a good indication that one is losing the argument.

It's okay. We gave up on having an intelligent conversation with GC a long time ago.
