How do you know ALL atheists (except for commies) are hedonists? A bit pretentious, aren't we?

You cannot make statements of this kind. Usually, different atheists will have different reasons and also different ways of living their atheism. One might abandon himself to earthly pleasure, but one might as well be opposed to such a way of life. There is no universality within atheism.
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.

Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.

Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.

Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.

Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

Same for the ones around here. Except for communists, the atheists are people who rather dwell on the simple pleasures of life. They are not bothered with anything else, and they disregard any other notions around them.

I've never understood this: why wouldn't one want to enjoy the pleasures of life, especially when one is of a mind that it's the life that we get? Where's the negative connotation? What's wrong with enjoying yourself?

Happily, to myself and a lot of other atheists, examining those "other notions" happen to be a part of those pleasures that we enjoy. Intellectual pleasure is still pleasure.

Supposedly, enjoying the pleasures of life detracts from one's spiritual journey toward better understanding god.

Yeah, I didn't think there was a reason either. Tongue

That's an awful blank assertion.
