I didn't mean anything by asking that. I was honestly curious about your opinion.

But even if the majority of people in China don't like Western stuff it would be really odd that not even a tiny segment of them would want to occasionally consume Western ideas/entertainment/music. Why aren't those people at least given the option?

Why did the Japanese Kamikaze pilot fly back to the base?
He forgot his helmet.

Whenever I dump a Japanese girl, they act like everything is fine.
It's like I have to drop the bomb twice before they get the message.

"A Japanese man walked into the currency exchange in New York City with 2000 yen and walked out with $72. The following week, he walked in with another 2000 yen, and was handed $66. He asked the teller why he got less money that week than the previous week. The teller said, "Fluctuations." The Japanese man stormed out, and just before slamming the door, turned around and shouted, "Fluc you Amelicans, too!"

Why is this so difficult to explain to the west? We can see and get anything in China as long as it is on our programs. We have porn, all International music, we can see everything except those things on certain western sites. It's not like we have a government that hides stuff, it's a matter of the governments trying to protect the west from talking nonsense and political/economic reasons. Business sanctions.

I think the west has a very uninformed view of who we are. Do you like our movies and pop stars? Can you eat three big meals for less than $3 a day? Can you travel on 3000miles on the worlds fastest train for less than $100? Do you know how we apply Confucius values in our culture, at home, at school etc.?

In the Western world we would call that a "Nanny state". Aren't your people mature enough to make their own individual decisions for what should be on your "programs"?

Of course not. Our standard of living is much higher than yours. That's why we outsource so much manufacturing to China and other countries that have lower standards of living.

Well, some of us would like to exchange our way of life for western lifestyles. When it comes to standard of life and living I will strongly disagree with you on that. We are different that I don't argue with but when it comes to what is called LIFE I don't desire western life at all. Been there done that, got the T-shirt!

I've been fucking with you! I work in China mate. I'm a white South African dude. I'm an Engineer and I enjoy life in China. I've been in the USA, England, Europe. I'll go back to Africa any day but I wouldn't want to live in the states or England. I'm serious.

I've been feeding yo local Chinese propaganda but personally I also believe that western people are just as much misinformed as the local Chinese are. The cultures are different and the Chinese are really very proud of their own heritage. Much more than Americans can wish to be. That's my honest opinion.

Considering the subjective limitations of Higher Education and normative morality, thinking outside the box might just be the way to solve the worlds problems.

I tend to agree that morality can not be subjected to the God idea.

Well, I guess it can be correct or incorrect. Though I really don't look for any basis for morals other than the fact that they're there. I have inherited a set of morals from my people. This is my only set of morals, as they are the only ones I really need. Do I need these people to tell me anything about morality? No. They ought to concern themselves with more practical issues rather than delving into matters of philosophy.

Psychologists have been theorizing about morality and it's development for years and years. You can find one of the original sparks of this field in Kolhberg's theory of moral development. I might be interested to pick up this book, since we've learned so much about the brain through fMRI machines. Smile

Clearly, you are not interested in matters of philosophy or practical issues. If you were, you'd need more of a basis than "its just there". You do need these people to tell you about it because apparently, you don't know anything about it. What's more, you are happy in your bubble of ignorance.

Explain.

Or can you?
Sorry I didn't answer you before. What I mean is that western view and education is very subjective when looked at from the east (limited) but the same is true for the East (China). My personal experience is that what Sam Harris is trying to promote as a 'new idea' is a sort of normal way of thinking in China unless I completely misunderstand what they are trying to do. Many moral decisions in China are basically scientifically based whilst the west might deem those kind of decisions as being cruel or immoral (unethical). I'm thinking of the one child policy, displacement of communities, land grabs for further development etc. In China the people accept those things as being the moral thing to do.
