Euthenasia

RE: Euthenasia
Sae,

Hydroflouric (HF) acid will actually ignore flesh and only attack bones (Random fact of the day). Acid is weird stuff, water is technically an acid because the formula starts with H. Both acid and fire will eventually deteriorate nerves to the point that you cannot feel anything so comparing the two is meaningless because it is the degree of exposure that determines which will cause more pain not the type of exposure. Hell, you could cause extreme pain with a belt sander properly applied to the body and it would be the amount of exposure that determines pain level.

I do think that fire has a unique ability to find that sweet spot where your nerves are affected but not destroyed and still leave you alive, whereas acid is more persistent and will usually either, not affect you that much, or will proceed to kill you. Fire is plasma and dissipates easily. Acid is liquid and persists without a neutralizing agent. In labs that have HF acid they keep a creme that is high in calcium so if you get HF on you the creme will neutralize the acid. It is not very effective but better than just sitting around waiting for your bones to be consumed!

How weird... I was under the impression that it could cause severe burns? True, eventually your nerves deteriorate, which is a reason that burning would stop being so bad after a while. That is a very good comparison between the too Rhiz, no disagreement from me here. Well said. Smile

There are several kinds of acid that will burn you much the same way as fire but the effect is chemical and the liquid or gas needs to make physical contact. Fire does not need to touch you to burn you; the heat can work through radiation. The sun is a great example of how fire can burn from a distance.

You still need to be within its area of effect to feel the burn. Smile I still can't get the screaming of a person bathed in acid out of my mind... a fire makes much less... though still horrible Undecided

Wether it has to touch you or not makes little difference in how much pain one can suffer... emotional pain is entirely non-physical... but it can be particularly painful. Smile

Sae,

I was just stating fact, not arguing in any particular direction.

I was just telling you that I can't get the screaming out of my head Undecided... not that it is necessarily true. Smile I was complimenting your facts with

a limitation, random personal fact, and the nature of pain itself. Smile

I think the best solution is to have consultation with psychiatrists and specialist doctors. If someone can convince a panel of well-informed doctors that they should die, and that they are in a sound state of mind, they should have that right.

Good idea get the patient referred to a euthanasia specialist by a consultant when THEY deem it an option. Only then should the patient get to choose. Seems harsh but would be the only way to screen out the people with psychiatric disorders.

I think if someone was in pain, and not the ability to do anything, that person has the right to end there life themselves.

I was working at Intel a while back and I saw a safety video that was titled Remember Charlie, it had some good points about safety. But it was very grusome to see as well.
