Preparing to fire up the file server, verify the 3 TB main store, and dump two 2 TB hard disks to tertiary storage. Then I'll initialize a 6 TB array and copy my DVD files to it. Once operational, I'll convert the tertiary store to main storage, for a total of 12 TB main storage on the file server. (RAID 6 @ 3 TB, RAID 5 @ 6 TB, + 3 TB backed to external hard disk.) Hopefully, later I will get to rooting a pogoplug device and installing ARM linux on it. Well, I'll probably get a Pogoplug rooted and linux installed, but the file server is taking longer than expected, including having to do some old skool case modding using a dremel. I guess you can give a girl good hardware, but you can't make a hardware girl be good. I'm dumping the planned 3 TB primary / tertiary pair and putting that combo in the bedroom htpc. What's left is to crack a couple external hard drives, matched pair, for a final, high speed RAID 1 array, and then pile everything in the case and install Home Server 2011. MOAR TEQUILA!! |
