"Alone is what I have. Alone protects me."
“I may be on the side of the angels but don’t think for one second that I am one of them.” “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day."
I just cycled up a huuuuuge hill near me called mam tor, which apparently means mother hill. I couldn't actually cycle up a lot of it I had to drag my bike up, a lot of the walkers were looking at me like I'm insane but I got some good riding once I got passed some of the rougher bits.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason. (May 15, 2018 at 12:38 pm)paulpablo Wrote: I just cycled up a huuuuuge hill near me called mam tor, which apparently means mother hill. In college, for cross-country training, we used to have to jog up along the path of this mountain. Burned the legs something crazy.
Just back from voting in the pub primary. Choices were miserable, did a few of write ins. (not that that will make a difference other than my conscious)
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Tried to finish removing the last few shingles from the gazebo roof. It started to rain and make grumbling thunder noises, so I put the ladder away and went shopping instead.
Found a 12-volt power adapter at a thrift store in an attempt to revive an external hard drive that's been kicking around my office. Stopped off at an office supply place and photocopied a couple of pages of music that are The Page Turns From Hell (tempo so fast that there's no time to flip the page over). Wandered through the biggest grocery store in town in a vain attempt to find a jar of sun-dried tomatoes for a recipe I want to try. Couldn't even locate the antipasto/olive bar to buy some in bulk -- they've moved that, too. Came home, taped the photocopied pages to the originals of the music to make a more readable piece, then spent quality time tearing my hair out as I practised the passages. Tried the power supply with the hard drive. Doesn't appear to be a power problem; might be the drive itself. Time to go medieval on the drive's ass with a screwdriver and see if there's anything fixable in there. But mostly I'm sitting here drinking single-malt Scotch and shaking my head at the weirdness of the day. Thirty minutes and three YouTube videos later -- Hard drive has been liberated from its case and from a probably dead-as-a-doornail SATA/USB interface card. I even found a static bag in my Box O' Many Computer Things. Life is good.
And now I'm drinking coffee and renting a pickup truck -- Got some shingles to haul to a recycling depot Bright and Way, Way Too Early tomorrow morning.
