finishing up here on a Saturday ready for a week off.

And in my resting week off I'm doing serious long pole hedge pruning, helping a friend with a merbau fence, changing upper and lower control arm bushes on the wife's car (bastard job) and doing a last mow on the lawn (as it hibernates for winter) and topping it up with soil/sand to level it up a bit more for the summer mow.

By next Friday, I'll be longing to come back to work just for the rest!

That bushing job, I know. I used to be able to rebuild a complete front end- control arm bushings, ball joints (including drilling/chiseling out the rivets), tie rod ends, shocks, springs (easy-all the rest is apart) in an 8 hour day. Admittedly my truck is a bit beefier, but it took my son and me a couple of days. I also was upgrading to front disc brakes at the same time, so we had the master cylinder and booster replacement in the works, as well. The control arm bushings were original from 1970, with over 215k miles on the truck- no neoprene. We were straining while using 3-foot cheater bars to unscrew the control arm bushings (they are all steel and thread in, on a truck). The lower control arm bushings are torqued to 175 Lbf-Ft (237 N-M) upon reinstallation, which torque we had to do under the truck. I was retired by then, which is a good thing. I was fucking beat after that little job.

Just got back from the monthly Royal Astronomy Society meeting. Topic this month was the history of the Hubble Space Telescope. Went for a snack with some of the group afterwards. Our end of the table ended up chatting about travel, and establishing a dark-sky preserve in southern Manitoba.

And upon my return home at midnight, I discovered an encampment of rogue red bean mochi on the kitchen counter (cooking experiment in progress). Have been advised that there will be leftover bean paste to be had, which I'll be attempting to turn into Chinese red bean buns.

But not tonight. I get to sleep in this weekend, two days in a row! *w00t*
