What's everyone up to right now?

Sorting and collating the gift boxes, gift cards, and candy. I've got about nine boxes each, and about 7-8 gift cards each. There's a couple of small gifts for each of my sisters and way more candy than you can shake a stick at. I'm going to get a few more boxes at the Dollar store, but I'll run to Menards today and see if they have some larger gift boxes. Any leftover candy will just go in one large gift box at the bottom of the Santa sack.

Had a big meeting with a disability lawyer.

Good news: He thinks I can't work a proper 9-5 with my sleep disorders.

Bad news: Apparently, we've been doing almost everything wrong for years, from using the wrong means to apply for disability to using the wrong form of trust to keep my money in.

That said: it looks like if we start everything over, we'll probably prevail in the end.

That said: it looks like if we start everything over, we'll probably prevail in the end.

I really hope that you get some relief. My youngest brother lived with us for a year and a half while his total disability claim worked its way through the system. Cancer survivor with multiple issues related to chemo/radiation/surgery for laryngeal cancer. (side rant- FUCK the tobacco industry with a rusty scythe!) He lived with us because he didn't know how the system worked (neither did my wife or I). It was that or the street, which, in his frame of mind, would have been OK (but probably rapidly fatal, in LA- where I am not). I found that there are people within his HMO who specifically handle these kinds of cases. It only took about six months to get him a place of his own after that. Too few people make avail of an ombudsman, because they don't know said position exists. I suspect that that may be a US thing? I do know that my dad would have been a magat were he alive today, and would have been hard over on that sort of help. We, as children, suffered for that.

It was a two-cart night tonight. I had considered bringing one cart and a few long-handled bags, but it's probably a good thing that I didn't. I would have managed, but any more than what I picked up and I would have been in trouble. Picked up a few gifts for myself as well. A microwave potato cooking bag, two bottles of Mexico Lindor hot sauce (perfect for adding heat to most anything), a bigger TV antenna, and a gadget for measuring the signal strength off of the antenna. And I hit Trader Joe's on the way home and bought holiday coffee and cheese for my pasta.
