That being said, I have not once sought HOA approval for any home/property improvement I've done so far. I got forced into filling out a form for the new roof because they spotted the permit the county taped up (on the garage door? really?). Cutting shit down (ornamental plum tree), tearing shit out (devil bush aka juniper bush), planting new trees (one apple, one cherry), planting new fruit bearing bushes and shrubs (three gooseberry plants, two blackberries, a dozen strawberries [now a hundred strawberries], various assorted pepper plants (potted so I can keep them alive over the winter), etc... Fuck 'em. The only valid purposes for a HOA is to protect your property values from being damaged by your neighbor's junked out '91 Dodge up on blocks in their yard or their bright idea to paint their house acid green with neon pink trim and to maintain common areas (pools, clubhouses, golf courses and the like. If HOAs limited their own power to those two things, I wouldn't have a problem with them. Human nature though tends to grab as much power over others as possible. I'm honestly surprised I don't have to seek HOA approval to mow my lawn even though I'm required to keep it trimmed. After all, they try to dictate what I can drink on my own fucking deck (no beer unless it's been poured into a glass). Back on topic... Going to bed. The last week+ has been absolutely fucking emotionally draining. Today was no improvement. Things do look like they're going to get better long term though. A bit of advice. If you or anyone you know need prescription strength allergy medications, stay away from Singulair and all it's generics! One of the known side effects of it's active ingredient is depression. Suicidal type depression. Very, very bad shit! Class action suit bad! Race home from work thinking a family member may be a corpse before you can get there bad! I've gone from thinking I could never be as frightened as I was by a charging cougar to understanding that cougars ain't shit compared to fear for the life of a family member. Been there twice in the last year and please no fucking more!!!

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Dealing with HOAs is a bit like being in prison. Pick the biggest, baddest motherfucker on your HOAs board and give him a good prison yard beat down. The rest will fall in line.
Me, I'm enjoying a little downtime basking in the air-fucking-conditioned goodness of my new pad after a delicious meal of salad, pasta with garlic and olive oil, and lamb chops. Life is good.
