Reasons for God
#71
RE: Reasons for God
How can I now fuck all about Christianity... when I was raised in and around church for my entire childhood, and even today cannot at times escape it. It pervades around my life like fog. Smile It causes me a great deal of unnecessary trouble, and many frustrations every day... what else could I do but criticize it?

RE: Reasons for God
Well I feel sorry for your personal circumstances but I would maintain by pretty plain evidence to me that you know nothing of Christianity.

RE: Reasons for God
What makes you say that? Smile Although I wish I could just dump all of the knowledge that I've gleaned from my indoctrination... it is not so easy to forget that which one wants to forget.

Of course, Christianity is interpreted differently by many believers... and I may in fact know nothing of *your* Christianity. Smile

That your understanding is way off the mark C. If you were indoctrinated in Christianity you'd understand these things. Christianity is precisely defined as well as having many interpretations.

Wow.. the idiots have an internet site now... ugh...
http://www.kasilofchurch.com/

Anyway, I was taught to accept that Christ died for our sins (among other things I was taught) uncritically... but never really understood or really accepted any of it... and always questioned it in Sunday School. So I suppose it is true that it was merely an attempted indoctrination Smile

So my understanding of Christianity is that it is rediculous... and I suppose you think that is way off the mark, whereas others here think i just shot a bullseye Smile

Yes certainly gave my life meaning as I had "turn the other cheek" beaten into me, and that meaning (at the time) was "worthless".

The title of this thread is "Reasons for God" , God is there for people who dont have the bollox to stand and face the world on their own to feet, and take responsibility for their own lives and actions, but let me tell you when you do, and when you realize what you have just done that is a real life experience.

Well once I thought the same thing C. I know it's a position of ignorance once you consider it seriously. It's always arrogance to shoot something down you don't understand. This is the way it's meant to be. It's supposed to look foolish or annoying to you by design, if you don't see the truth in it.

RE: Reasons for God
??? So if you tell me there is a pony on my desk... i am not entitled to laugh at the idea, even if I decide to consider it? I don't understand how there is a pony on my desk for instance (and I mean a literal pony...)... therefore I am not entitled to ask you to prove that there really is a pony on my desk?

By not seeing the truth, the truth needs to be explained. I myself feel that all gods have failed to explain the truth in any way worth considering even possible... let alone conclusive. It is foolish to take the word of a blind man that he sees a walking mountain. He needs to justify it to the point that I am willing to take that leap of faith... however small it may be for me at the time.

'God' needs to justify my coming to him for me... and he has not yet succeeded.

You're supposed to laugh or be annoyed at the idea if you don't look at it with open eyes. If you put preconceived ideas in the way. We're all guilty of this. God doesn't have to justify anything, you have to abandon prejudice.

RE: Reasons for God
??? So you are suggesting that I 'descaffold' my previous justifications in regard to everything? Yes, I am prejudiced that a coffee cup is probably just like every other coffee cup I have ever seen, and that it will not turn into the hulk and rip me to shreds if I touch it.

We are all 'guilty' of this, because it is ridiculous to see | | | | | | | | | and rejustify each and every one of them. Unless I have reason to see one of those |'s differently from the others: then there is a really good chance that it is just like the others (or at least similar enough for me to consider them equally).

Of course I'm going to laugh at you telling me there is a pony on my table... as I'm sitting right in front of it (in good light) and not seeing a solid, opaque, average pony Smile I'm willing to accept that there is a pony on my table, but I laugh at the concept initially, and unless you can justify the pony's existence by my standards: I will do little more than laugh Smile But I will listen until it becomes clear to me that one just keeps repeating the same thing over

and over again
