Also, the finale somewhat disappointed me. I wonder if the books ended the same way or if the ending was specially created for the show.
The first season was pretty faithful to the first book (except for the very end, which the TV show actually did better). I didn't read subsequent books, but my wife did and said that they are very different from subsequent seasons.

At lunchtime I read an interview on the finale with a producer and can appreciate it a little more now.
