Well, this is great news for Texas. It may take some of the withering glare of the entire nation off us for maybe a second. Let some other state embarrass itself terribly for a second so I can take a breather.

But yeah, plenty of other states weakly(weekly) vie for the crown of stoopidist state. (September 29, 2013 at 7:50 pm)Zazzy Wrote: Well, this is great news for Texas. I'm sure you'll do something down there to grab the title back. I do believe Mississippi still has us beat in teen pregnancies, although surely someone will cheerily post a link to show me that I'm wrong and we're # 1. Oh god, not again... we went through this years ago when a conservative BOE relaxed the science standards to allow creationism to be taught in classrooms. Luckily they got voted out and a more sensible BOE changed the standards back.
Sometimes I think I need to leave this fucking state and go somewhere where the people aren't idiots.

These people are fucking idiots... Oh, wait.
Yes, I approve of this thread. Fucking idiot.... Yes, that.
IIRC what they did before was to change the science standard wording. It said that science is "the search for natural explanations for what is observed in the universe" and they got rid of the word "natural" so that supernatural, i.e. creationism, would be allowed. Luckily the standards got changed back to the original wording.
Those creationists will never give up trying to force their bullshit into classrooms. I just wish they'd GTFO of my state.

Please don't post into a thread that hasn't been posted in for thirty days. That is necroposting and is an abomination in the eyes of the mods.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
