I just read a story about a kid who TURNED IN a hunting knife that he accidentally brought to school after working in his yard beforehand, and yet they suspended him for 10 days.
But hey, you never know, that quarter sized key chain might be an actual firearm!

We're taking the express train to Idiotville suspending kids for things like this. Would a squirt gun be an offense too? It's got a trigger and actually 'fires' a projectile. Ridiculous.

Any masonry supply, maybe even hardware store, sells hydrochloric acid for scrubbing fresh mortar splatters off newly minted brick work. I don't think there is a prohibition on selling to minors. Still...I'm not ready to handcuff 4 year olds over potential acid abuses. Some things you just chalk up as harmless. Same with key chains.

Well, if its law, there is nothing that can be done about it. If the school decrees that nothing that resembles a firearm will ever get into school, then he shouldn't have brought it.
