I tend to see honor as groupthink; a proscribed set of constraints usually rewarded by positive reinforcement and punished through shame. It has its uses, as evidenced by the medieval Shogunate and USMC.

It's variable, so no...no objective honor that I'm aware of.

You make a really good point. I strongly agree with this. All in what it is based off of and how it is used.

Yeah that was one thing the book mentioned, though it is fiction I know that is true. Seems odd but genius on the controlling party. Having someone got to that extent.
