A dangerous lie
Where did the myth of all virgins having hymens/bleeding start?

RE: A dangerous lie
From the guys who screwed virgins, and found blood on their dicks when they pulled it out? Now granted the hymen can break from a lot of things, and a broken hymen doesn't mean a woman isn't a virgin. Still, "pop the cherry" is a common phrase from what I've heard.

RE: A dangerous lie
A lot of virgins probably had hymens and bled when they lost them, so some ancient geniuses probably figured it meant that those who didn't had already done the horizontal tango. This is about as scientific as superstitious people typically get.

RE: A dangerous lie
It is neither a myth nor a lie. All virgins have hymens at a given point. Whether the hymen is always still present at the time of first intercourse is a variable factor. If the hymen is present at first intercourse, bleeding frequently happens due to tissue tearing.

Yeah, and whether they bleed or not on the first time.

[Warning: TMI?]

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Strategic stretching? You were trying to keep it from breaking?

I wonder if any guy goes into this, not knowing that bleeding could be involved, then freaks out when he sees blood.

I don't think anyone is saying that this scenario happens every single time. Just that it usually happens.

Not really. It was just some nice foreplay that served another purpose, without us realizing it Big Grin

Well as long as he didn't accuse you of not being a virgin afterwards due to the lack of red coloring.

RE: A dangerous lie
Actually, plenty of people believe that no bleeding = not a virgin. Hence hymen reconstruction surgery and its popularity amongst muslim girls or other girls of more conservative cultures.
