I suspect he's attempting to be condescending.

Whenever someone uses the pejorative term "boy" I automatically hear a redneck voice no matter who says it.
You givin' me lip boi?
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.

Politicians act when most people want something so when for example the non smoker are more that smokers then they will change the law in favor of non smokers.
The politicians will also do something when the situation become unsustainable.
Unfortunately they often take the wrong decision so instead of preventing disasters like the unsustainable cost in the health sector and climate changes caused in part by the meat policy they privatize the health sector and then they throw taxpayers money down the drain when they help the livestock farmers when these guys can not feed the cattle anymore due to their own stupidity when they turn fertile land into a desert.
If it would be for the politicians we would end up in the gutter very soon.
Fortunately there are a lot of good people around and the consciousness all around create more awareness about what is good and what is not good.
Peace come only after a fight.
As i did fight about the tobacco smoking in the past and i won as the same time i will fight about any issue that prevent humanity to go ahead.

They changed the laws about smoking because it became apparent that second hand smoke was very bad for your health. It had nothing to do with popularity or opinion.

Oh right! I've been wondering why all these deserts are cropping up in england.

Then you should be fighting yourself and other people with your beliefs.

As I said, there is a grain of truth there. Eating meat increases risk of cardiovascular disease.

As does anything else. Meat is not unique in this aspect. Stop encouraging him.
Indeed, any pleasurable activity will cause activation of dopamine neurons. Eating meat however is a harmful activity, to your health, to the environment and most importantly to animals. To the extent the pleasure from eating meat supports harmful behaviour, it is similar to drugs. I am not encouraging him, and regardless I don't think Enrico even reads my posts as he has never responded to them (perhaps it doesn't fit in with this ideology that another vegan could criticise some of his views?)

Yep, based on the data you provided (go look, enrico, that's what science looks like) I'll give you that. Although as always there is the correlation =/= causality issue with cohort studies.
I think it's a risk I'm willing to run. For me I'm not sure eschewing meat would make me live longer, just die later .
