Hi all

Hi all, we're Christian atheists. For a while now our family have been trying to shape our lives around the teachings of Jesus as a philosopher, not as the Son of God. We do not believe in God, but we have found happiness and peace in our lives by adopting our own views of Christian philosophy and the Bible.
What do you think?

Sounds fascinating. But there must be some aspects of Jesus's teachings that as an atheist you reject.
For example, whenever he talks about God.
Anyway, welcome along.

Welcome. I see no fault in trying to use the philosophy of Christ without believing in the mumbo jumbo of an actual deity.
You fans of the Jefferson Bible by chance? That one is closest to what I think describes your views.

Hi, thanks for the replies.
We do reject some of his teachings an incorporate pre-exisiting morals in our everyday lives. However, we find most of Jesus' narration a beautiful summary of intrinsic moral values, which in modern days unfortunately often become diluted.
We are very familiar with the Jefferson Bible and although some of it we find disagreeable it is indeed close to what we follow. We plan on extensively reviewing it on our blog in the future

Although there is no such thing as an intrinsic meaning... let alone an intrinsic moral?
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

Hello BruceMegan. Welcome to the forums.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
