When does something qualify as Classic Rock?

RE: When does something qualify as Classic Rock?
Classic Rock ended when Punk (good) and Disco (bad) took over. The 1980's was all about U2, REM, and the Police. I don't consider any of those Classic, certainly not in the same category as Zepplin, the Stones, and definately not Janis.

I put Nirvana in it. Nevermind came out 23 years ago. I feel like that counts.

What would your definition of Classic Rock be? When does something become classic?

I have a Spotify playlist with classic rock that I named "Nirvana Is Not Classic Rock Dammit" in response to having heard them on a classic rock station in 2007.

I was born in 1982. Classic Rock was over by then. I think of it as more of a genre than a temporal classification.

To me, 70's rock has always had that classic rock vibe to it. I think 70's rock really ought to be a radio genre in itself. Same with 80's pop. Back in Pittsburgh, everybody listened to 70's rock. There's just something very mulletheaded about it.

I grew up liking Boston, and I still like The Hooters, though I think that's more 80's. You'd hear those from time to time in Pittsburgh, along with Styx.

I can fucks with that. I can rename my playlist to "Old-ish Rock."

I've always thought of Classic Rock as 60s and 70s. I remember the first time I heard Guns N' Roses on the Classic Rock station, I felt sooooo old! I consider 80s and early 90s to be retro rock and Nirvana to be just plain grunge rock.

When you have songs from bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival.
