whats ur take on paul?
.

Paul was the first person to write about the Jesus character and he was preaching about him in the 30s. Paul was a highly complex man with multiple personalities. He was a religious fanatic and he created the Jesus character to give him an out for his many past crimes. He was able to insert the Jesus character into The Way cult and supplant The Way with his new doctrine. His disciples wrote the Gospels to explain the Jesus character's background and they incorporated some of the political events of the three main Jewish rebel leaders as events in Jesus' life.

Paul created the Christian religion based upon an imaginary character that he had created to excuse his past "sins." He adopted some religious rituals from other Asian religions and essentially renounced the traditional Jewish religion that was practiced at that time.

You, .....you, ....your good...

A deeply interesting take.

Is there a prominent figure whom has presented this view also?

It would be considerably engaging to read their thoughts on that.

The critique of Pauline Christianity is something I have always possessed a predilection towards.

I don't believe you, but I'd love to hear more.

Paul was right in saying there was no need for animal sacrifices anymore. It was a requirement for the Jewish nation up until the crucifiction of Christ. Paul met with Christ on the road to Damascus and was led to spread the faith to the gentiles. His views didn't conflict with the other apostles teachings and was himself a genuine apostle. He was already a pharisee, a position of high honor in Jewish society, with a brilliant future ahead of him. Why would he go around preaching christianity knowing it would lead to the beatings and stonings he received? I don't see any basis for the conjecture I see here concerning Paul. It's just opinions used to discredit Paul and christianity.

RE: An unanswerable question
If Paul is genuinely the author of many letters written within biblical literature, he has a certain proclivity for self-aggrandisement.

Tom O'Golo postulates several key elements were added by Paul to Christian theology that weren't evident in Jesuism. These included:

Original sin
Making Jews the villains
Making Jesus divine
Transubstantiation of bread and wine into actual flesh and blood
Jesus' death being seen as an atonement for human sin
Making Jesus the Messiah
Shifting the emphasis from an earthly to a heavenly kingdom
Enlarging the chosen people to include anyone who accepted Jesus as Saviour
Making salvation a matter of belief in Jesus almost regardless of the demands of the Torah
Establishing a hierarchy (literally a holy order) to create and control a Church and more importantly to create and control the beliefs of its membership.

RE: An unanswerable question
Paul did not believe that jesus blood was shed for sin... and about the road to Damascus... how do people know that it was jesus and not satan.. the light he experienced could of been satan. (2 Cor 11:12-14)... paul says But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

I'm of the opinion that all of Paul's knowledge of Christ was merely "spiritual," and not corporeal. I don't think Paul ever knew a man / god named Jesus in the flesh.
