RE: Facebook adds 56 Gender options to choose from

You have a fair point, but I don't like being repackaged into a product if it gets in the way of my using the service. Like the continual "Wouldn't you like to add more information to your profile" prompts. Their overt attempts to steer you towards providing them useful information is just oppressive.
I don't really use Facebook, so I imagine I don't have a beef. But there's a fine line, and Facebook is continually over it.

It's pretty much a win-win - they get more information and people get to more closely define themselves the way they want.

You must be easily irritated. I clicked those off a couple times and they haven't shown back up.

The thing with me being the product is that... no I'm not!
I'm the end consumer, the guy that will ultimately decide to buy the stuff in the ads.
So they know what sort of stuff I like... so what?
Whenever I search for something on amazon, the next day I get an email telling me to look into these other fine choices in the same subject. Amazon knows what I like to look at... or rather... what I look at... at least half of my searches are for prices to help other make their decisions
But I must be a rarity... I'm pretty much not influenced by ads. At most, they let me know that some particular thing exists... which I could get from a small search on a few select sites.
Oh, and adBlock Plus! I only get ads when I'm using the phone!
On other news, I've been trying to get my kids to ignore ads too, at least the few online ones that they come across. I must say that I have been successful at that. Even when they don't understand what's written, they just go to what they want to do!

Every time I went to Facebook for a while, it would ask me to fill in my high school. I didn't want that information in my profile. But it kept coming back. It only stopped when I provided the information.
Easily irritated, no. (Nice ad hom, btw.) Facebook irritating? You bet.

This. However, Google's analytics have done a good job bringing up boutiques and things I might not have seen otherwise, so I really couldn't be irritated with them.

It did that to me too about my work. I clicked the little x a couple times - it hasn't shown up since.

It was a verbalized assumption based on experiential ease in getting that factor to go away. Now...FB's home feed issues? THAT is irritating.

I had the same issue. All I wanted was my close family members on facebook. It constantly asked me to add people or information I didn't want there. It would be nice to have a "fuck off and leave me alone" button.

It's one thing to think that "I have a penis, but I know I'm supposed to be a girl," and another thing to think "you know what, I'm not comfortable as either male or female, so I've just decided I'm giving up on having a gender." One of them can make sense. I really hope you can understand which one does.
'Neither' is terrible when relating to a pile of options, but 'nongendered' is not.
Don't really feel like explaining that having a sex does not establish one's gender. I also am not particularly desirous of explaining that humans and Earth are not what the universe revolves around.

This is awfully stupid in my opinion. Just put in whatever gender you identify as. This non-binary is just ridiculous! Get over yourselves & stop playing oppressed. There are people with real gender identity issues (men who are women, women who are men), but you SJW with your "non-binary" are just retarded.

They have to buy that app for $12bn first.
