Damned Republicunts
RE: Damned Republicunts
Quote:In fact, it's kinda odd, ain't it, there's not a rush, nationwide, to get stuff fixed NOW, while it still can be ??

You do understand that Congress is not even in session, right?  And when they get back the last thing they are going to do is waste money that could be given to rich fucks in tax breaks on shit that will benefit the poor.

NLRB, EPA, HHS, VA, HEW, NIH, and literally 100,000 other agencies, bureaus, admins, offices are still open for business.

Weird in the extreme they all don't have people lined up around the block getting shit fixed right now. Figured there'd even be congestion on the news shows tripping over themselves reporting on the rush of 'penitents' streaming to Washington* for absolution/redress of grievances before the doors are slammed shut. Figured offices would be open on weekends and evening hours too.

*sorry for the flowery prose there, but it should be literally that way and it isn't. What's up ?

Quote:GOP Gov. Snyder’s office says Detroit school kids have no right to literacy

Quote:The state of Michigan is being sued because several schools in Detroit are failing to teach children how to read, and Gov. Rick Snyder’s team of lawyers has come up with a novel defense.

According to local news station CBS Detroit, Gov. Snyder’s attorneys are claiming that children who are taught within the state’s school systems have no fundamental right to literacy, which means that the state isn’t liable if its schools fail to educate them.

So, I guess in Flint that people have no right to use a municipal water system and expect it to be free of lead?

This is the part where Drich jumps in and says the schools black kids have to go to are just fine.

I think this is a really misleading title/article. Technically speaking, no school kids anywhere have a "right to literacy." The article makes it sound like Snyder doesn't want black people to be educated. In actuality, it's just the default position of the state since...like I said, there's no constitutional "right to literacy," which is what the law firm is arguing

Seems kind of asshole-ish to use that as a defense, though. I wonder what their annual school budget is?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The state of Michigan requires mandatory school attendence from 6 to 16.

http://www.michigan.gov/documents/compul...3182_7.pdf

And the state constitution requires:

Quote:§ 2 Free public elementary and secondary schools; discrimination.

Sec. 2.
The legislature shall maintain and support a system of free public elementary and secondary schools as defined by law. Every school district shall provide for the education of its pupils without discrimination as to religion, creed, race, color or national origin.

Apparently, you and that fucktard governor think that means that all they have to do is sit there and jerk off?

No...I'm just explaining that if someone is trying to sue and say that the state does not already have it in its constitution that the kids have a "right to literacy" then the defense's default position is that they don't.

Does Michigan not understand that they can lose their Title IV funding for their schools if this shit continues? I guess stupid is as stupid does.

It wouldn't take more than an hour, and we would have King swearing on video that every word of the Communist Manifesto was true, that there is no other god than Allah, and that he (King) enjoyed taking it up the ass every chance he got. Miserable prick. But point that out to him, and he'd have to deny it or else admit that water boarding is a lousy way to get reliable information in the first place. So he would have to claim -- laughably -- that he is tougher and better able to withstand such interrogation than commandos who are trained to deal with such treatment as best they can if captured.

But that's the point with chicken hawks and tough guy wannabes. There's no level to which they won't stoop as long as they are secure in the belief that only the 'bad guys' will be tortured (or is that 'interrogated bigly'?). Because, as we all know, the U.S. has never unjustly detained and tortured anyone on suspicion of terrorist activity or of fighting on behalf of our enemies.  No one ever got ratted out to U.S. forces as a spy/enemy combatant/potential terrorist to satisfy a private vendetta or to collect on a reward.

Nope. Didn't happen. Of course not.
