RE: hello
44 , married , 2 kids[youngest turns 13 in a day or so], born and raised in s.f. bay area.

my parents were methodists, but as a kid it never really made sense to me. Then when you ask questions and don't get answers it only brings more questions. I was never content with the non-answer answer- godswill -he works in mysterious ways -because i said so.

For a long time i was a pretty passive 'live and let live' atheist, i'd tell ya what i thought if you asked but was just as happy to leave you alone if you did the same. But after watching .... however many years of the religious right pushing a political agenda i became less and less passive. More willing to stand up and say something.

I feel, the more people talk openly about religion/atheism and we get beyond the mentality of you can't question religion or faith and hold it up to light and see it for what it is , a sham.

just as a side note-

so you can get a mental picture, 80% of the time i'm typing there is a 20lb cat laying between me and the keyboard, as if i didn't type horribly enough, and the other 20% of the time the big cat is still there but there is also kitten scratching the screen and finding shortcuts with my keyboard i did know existed.

Welcome Ray. I'm in the closet for the majority of people I know, only because I run a business and I live in a red county. I'm so alone!

RE: hello
Me too binny. When on a job that part of me has to to be locked in the closet.

Doesn't it just grate your cheese when a customer starts in with the "Oh thank Jesus, praise God he sent you here." (I thought it was their phone call to me that sent me there(?)) when the repairs are minor and inexpensive.

When giving bad news, major repairs/expensive I get asked "Are you Christian?" as if they are judging my honesty by asking this question.

Or even worse they start 'witnessing' to me and that part of me locked in that closet also needs to be bound and gagged because I got a $1800 job staring at me and honesty about that aspect of my life most likely would cost me that job. So I force myself to 'play the part' and I respond "Oh yes, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Halleluja. Praise God! etc etc etc ad nauseum...."
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

RE: hello
We have one Christian in the Dutch office that discussed what he believed and why with me once. After 2 hours of listening to his arguments, and me refuting them, he hasn't even tried anymore. He is not a bad guy, but boy was his knowledge on his holy book lacking. We still have lunch together and we talk about all kinds of things, but religion he keeps wisely to himself.
Best regards,
