When Rick Perry had a day of prayer for rain in Texas the state caught fire.

What will this do?

Less praying and more shoveling might help.

Pope Obama?

Calling Americans to prayer? The ones who are religious most likely are praying without his urging. So I should pray because the President suggested it?

Whether religious people (global community?) accept this or not, atheism is growing. Christianity is still the global dominate religion, with Islam second. Atheism is the third largest group.

Yes, atheists...pray. lol

And the only reason Christianity is dominate is because it is a catch all for all who identify themselves as Christian. Not necessarily that they practice it.

I would rather be ignored than prayed for. Disinterest or no action are superior. Prayer is the response of someone that only pretends to care in that they actually take positive action to offer up the same level of help; i.e., none. Prayer is for the person praying, not the person in need. It's a very selfish act masquerading as deep concern.

Well I mean, he's gotta say it. Prayer makes people feel better about bad shit.... the only thing is that it does nothing in reality.

Yeah, he's got to play the xtian to be president in this country. Like everyone says, saying you'll pray for someone has become like saying "bless you" after a sneeze. With anyone I care about at all, I just respond that they'll "be in my thoughts". When someone asks for prayers is rarely a good time to tell them what a meaningless gesture I find that to be.

Coming from the UK I've never heard anyone say "I'll pray for you". However if you go onto a Christian Forum you get a whole section where people pray for each other. Do these people actually sit down, clasp their hands together and say "God, Mt555bpTTITT on the internet has a mathematics exam coming up, please help them out"?

And in real life when someone says "I'll pray for you" do they actually do it, or is it just a saying?

I had a long discussion with a Christian on another forum about the failed prayer studies. Apparently they weren't praying to the right god, which seems to be one Christian way of countering these studies. What they haven't considered is that if it is that difficult to find the correct God to pray to, then it is still pretty pointless.

Lol. I heard about that. Hopefully Obama will put something useful into action, but then they'll all give credit to go if it went well and blame Obama if it went wrong.
