What would it take for you to believe in God?
RE: What would it take for you to believe in God?
Oh, another one of these guys...
I would believe when I knew.

The basic reason I don't believe the claims of theists is because I repeatedly catch them in blatant lies.
Why would anyone trust unsupported statements coming from sources known to be liars?

Evidence.

Quote:In your mind, is your primary reason for not believing in God moral, scientific, or something completely different?

It's evidential.

No evidence one exists = no compelling reason for me to believe one does actually exist.

Provide me with evidence and I'll reconsider my opinion.

I think this is an important thing to admit. I think a great majority of people who worship god do so because they accepted the claim that he exists without question, and have never dared to question it. Hence, any claim or argument that strengthens that viewpoint is readily accepted, and any that questions that viewpoint is quickly rejected. It cripples our ability to reason by inserting a variable that we would not accept under any other circumstance, and which even the theist refuses to accept when it comes to belief in any other god than the one he worships.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Nice deflection!

The Triune God revealed in the Bible.

So you want to talk books, not gods?

(Plus, minor grammatical edit to tBt's quote. Sorry, but I had to do something to take my teeth off edge.)
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

To me, the whole god concept is little more than a cipher. It's faces in the wallpaper, which someone still needs to tell you what to see. Left to make up your own impressions without any outside involvement and all you have is god claim #9999566734789893478. Why else do you think almost all theists have no other recourse than to hide inside their storybook?

What would it take for me to believe in "God"?

Existence would be a good start. After that, compelling evidence.

A better question, is why do otherwise intelligent people believe demonstrable horseshit? i.e., the story of Jesus, Yaweh and Friends?

Odd species the human race.

Do you believe in hope, joy, love, courage? If so, what is the testable evidence of these things?

Ever heard if science? It's pretty neat. There's a subset called biology, and check this! They can actually look at this thing called a brain! No shit bro, a really fucking brain, man.

And guess what, this brain shit is like responsible for all sorts of wack in your body, like KEMIKULS and hormones and shit. There's these guys called endocrinologists that go through your endocrine system and can even measure these little hormone motherfuckers and how they can affect your body and even your emotions!

And don't even get me started on things like
MRI scans and neuroscience. That shit is off the scale man!

You should try reading up on it. It might stop you asking silly questions.

Dude, think about it. Have you ever tried to pass ten million in bills?
Passing a single one sounds painful enough.

Why doesn't God interact with us today or communicate with us in an audible voice? Why do pastors say he communicates to us through the Bible?
