Sure, Min. is crude and tactless in his delivery of his points. But A Theist has staunchly defended an ignorant cowboy that lied us into two disastrous wars that cost trillions of dollars and thousands of lives, wiped his ass with the constitution by siging the Patriot Act and eliminating Habeus Corpus, and nearly brought down the global economny by allowing his Wall Street cronies to rape the American middle class. Then he has the gall to slouch in here and shamlelessly use a scandal in which the veterans he supposedly cares so much about were disgustingly mistreated as a cheap ploy to call us hypocrites based on nothing more than the fact that no one had brought the scandal up yet. That is comparable to Min. calling people "Republicunts?"

It is kind of crazy. George Bush hasn't been in office for 7 years, but whenever the Obama administration screws up (say in this issue) he somehow still gets blamed for everything. I wonder how many decades it'll be until that excuse becomes invalid.

Let's do some math on the bonuses:

In 2012, physicians practicing primary care received total median annual compensation of $220,942 and physicians practicing in medical specialties received total median annual compensation of $396,233.

Assuming median pay for only one year, $8.8 million is:
39 primary care providers
Or
22 specialists


Assuming 4 year tenures minimum:
9 primary care providers
5 specialists

8.8$ million is 0.005% of the 157.2 billion $ budget.

In other words, the bonuses, while probably undeserved, are noise.

Now, at least seven VA centers are being investigated for “secret” waiting lists. Here are the bonuses into these troubled facilities (2011-2013):

1. Edward Hines, JR Hospital, Cook County, IL ($4.1356 million)
2. Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center, Gainesville, FL ($575,400)
3. New Mexico VA Health Care System Albuquerque, NM ($2.646 million)
4. Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System Home, Biloxi, MS ($247,103)
5. Miami VA Healthcare System Miami, FL ($334,987)
6. Fort Collins Outpatient Clinic, Fort Collins, CO ($4,150)
7. Phoenix VA Health Care System Home, Phoenix, AZ ($843,000)

TOTAL: 12,549 bonuses for $8.787 million (2011-2013)......

The list of facilities now under investigation has ballooned to 26 and counting, so these estimates likely do little more than scratch the surface. And they only span two years. Remember, bonuses aren’t a mere sideshow in this scandal, as several media outlets have reported that some of the VA administrators who cooked the books on wait times were motivated by avarice. Their maneuvers were, in part, a job- and bonus-protection scheme – which is why Senate Democrats’ endorsement of inaction, as Ed put it earlier, is so galling.

Actually, he DID act to fix it, he provided more funding and instated a few other measures, which actually did address a lot of the issues with wait times, though it wasn't entirely enough, and with the ongoing wars, more and more veterans were being added to the rosters, which meant a greater need for funding...which hasn't been added. Sanders wanted to address that. Republicans refused. Now we have admins gaming the system to protect their jobs and bonuses because their facilities over the last two years haven't been increased to deal with the rising numbers. More I think about it, the more convinced I become that this outcome could easily have been avoided.
