My verdict is that I really actually enjoyed this film. That last 3 (the wolverine ones and the first class ones) have been, IMHO, pretty poor, although I do I like fassbender as magneto and McAvoy as Prof X.
I thought Jennifer Lawrence was pretty amazing (not to mention fucking gorgeous in that mystique get up), and I thought the story line did really well to solve plot holes raised by the previous films (which have all been overcome through the whole timeline plots - which also weren't too confusing). There are some oddities remaining (as stated in the OP), but they don't detract from the film.
I'd recommend it wholly, and I look forward to the finale in X-men apocalypse which I believe will be introducing my favorite baddy mutant.
