My parents were always believers in god of some form, but once I was in fourth grade, that's when I went to church for the first time. I guess one of the Sunday school teachers saw that I was not yet a believer, so she took me aside and made me say the "sinner's prayer". Once that happened, my parents (mostly my mother but my father sometimes as well) began teaching me about god. I was always uncomfortable with the idea of having to publicly worship, pray and praise god, and I sure as hell didn't want to tell anyone about him. By the time I was a junior in high school, not only was I thinking more logically, but by the time I was learning about astronomy in physics, I was doing my own study. This study led me to the realization that much of what has been proven about what we see around us seems to conflict with the bible. In spite of the fact that I still lived with my parents, I decided to end my so called "Christian life". That was 6 years ago, and I have never been the same since I stopped believing.

Welcome. Reality provides a wonderful landscape for our journey. Adding superstitious baggage only serves to make the trip cumbersome.
You will find that religionists never present a case for their god, only cast doubts in our knowledge. The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.
Hey, welcome Aaron. Thanks for sharing your story. You'll find if you stick around that a lot of people have a very siilar story to share.

Welcome!
Welcome.
Unfortunately, studying for themselves is something many theists - not just Christians - refuse to do. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO? WHERE???" |
